Imagine sand in your eyes and glaring heat taking you down one second at a time, all while digging a 5 foot wide by 5 foot deep hole. That’s the life of Stanley Yelnats IV in the book “Holes” by Louis Sachar. The book “Holes” is a mystery comedy novel released on August 20th, 1989. The book “Holes” Starts off with a teenager named Stanley Yelnats IV. Stanley and his family have had bad luck ever since his no good dirty rotten pig-stealing great great grandfather Elya Yelnats made a promise he did not keep. But we’ll get to that later. After Stanley has to get his wet book from the bathroom after his bully Derrick Dunne threw his notebook in the bathroom. After having to take the time to do that he missed the bus so he ran home. Then suddenly a pair of shoes that do not belong to him hit him on the head. Stanley’s father Stanley Yelnats III is working on a product to get rid of foot odor. This …show more content…
While running some police officers see him and pull him over and take the shoes. Later Stanley finds out that the shoes belong to Clyde Livingston or Sweetfeet (A baseball star).

Stanley is arrested and the Judge does not believe that the shoes just fell from the sky. Stanley is given a choice of going to Jail or Camp Green Lake. Of course since the family is poor and Stanley does not want to go to jail so he chooses to got to Camp Green Lake. Stanley was shocked when he finds out what the camp is… On the ride there three people are on the bus, The driver, Stanley and a guard with a gun. He is handcuffed to the chair in scorching heat. When they finally get to the Camp it is not what he is expecting at all. There is no lake and no water anywhere. After being dumbfounded he meets Mr. Sir. Mr. Sir is the head counselor at the camp and is mean because he just quit smoking. Mr. Sir takes Stanley to get his new clothes and tells him he can run

The story begins with Mr. Snopes on trial for burning a neighbor’s barn after sending a black man over for his hog and actually warning the man that hay and wood burn.
