Standing Against The Wind
All my family and friends know that I’m a big reader. I was sitting in my room when my little sister came in. She had a book in her hand and said that I needed to read it. Well if my sister, who barely reads, says a book is good, then I needed to read it and I’m glad I did. Standing Against The Wind is an incredible book. The main characters, Patrice and Monty, are an interesting a unique couple. Patrice is a quiet girl who keeps to herself and gets straight A’s in school. She doesn’t have much family besides her mom, who’s in jail, and her aunt and cousins. Monty is more outgoing and doesn’t really care about is grade or school in general. He has many friends and is famous with the girls. In this book, both characters push each other to

Finding one book that intrigued Stephanie enough was all it took to make her an everyday reader. The same goes to me. When in my earlier years I hated reading. There were only two things I hated to do. Those two things were reading, and doing what someone told me to do. Hating a combination of the both you could see how the disposition with reading would subsist. It wasn’t until the summer going into middle school that I changed my ideals on the subject.…

There are many things that I really enjoyed reading in my book. Some of those things would have to be just how accurate everything seemed to be. A good example of this would be how Mrs. Bowen put all of the dates and historical events into the arguments that were held in making the Constitution. Another thing that I liked was just how the author made me…

I like the book called The Meteor because when she was little and she was trying to read a big meteor came down from the sky and hit the ground. It hit so hard in the ground that it moved the house side to side. When her grandma pasted away they used the meteor as a grave for the grandma. Then she goes to schools with a piece of the meteor and said, “If you touch the meteor your wish will come true.” Because the family believed that if you touch the meteor your wish will come true.…

I’m not going to lie, I was not thrilled to be assigned a summer reading assignment but I thoroughly enjoyed Of Mice and Men. When I first picked up the book I told myself I was going to read the first twenty pages because that’s the type of reader I am and I ended up reading the first seventy-three. I couldn’t put the book down and I don’t know why. It’s not the type of book I would generally pick out, but Of Mice and Men stood out to me.…

Reading is my life. It’s my escape from the world around me. I love getting lost in a story about monsters and myths, or a Cinderella gone wrong. If I didn’t draw as much as I did, I’d probably be the anti-social bookworm in the back, like in all those cliche teenage love stories. It’s actually quite surprising to see how many people dislike books, there’s nothing wrong with a little reading every once and awhile. But who am I to judge? I wasn’t a very big reader myself until maybe two years ago. Of course, that leads to the first reason why I enjoy reading so much.…

Everyone has their own literary narrative and their own path into literacy. The growth from picture books to those with over a thousand pages is a huge transition in one’s life. Reading has impacted my life and others such as Gerald Graff, Richard Rodriguez, and Eudora Welty. I know my literary journey is still only beginning and the rest of my novel known as life is still a blank book. From here on I am just going to continue writing the…

In my 17 years of being alive I have never like reading. There is so many words and I have never been able to comprehended them. Out of the few books I have liked I noticed there are qualities that make me enjoy them. Good books are relatable. I believe in a good book you should be able to connect to the writer or the topic on some level. Good books also make you think hard about your life or the topic. If I can relate to the book I am more likely to enjoy it just for that fact. The novel Fast Girl by Suzy Favor Hamilton is an outstanding book it is relatable, has a sympathetic protagonist, and it has a dramatic plot twist. (126)…

Over the course of my short life, I have read tons of books. Of course a handful of those books were educational however, a lot of them weren't. It may sound crazy or weird but I absolutely love to read. Ironically enough my room mate does too. A week or so ago she encouraged me to read at least one of the many books that she brought to school with her. On the top of the stack of books within the box was a novel by the name of Night Road by Kristin Hannah. While it may be cliché, I was instantly intrigued by the cover and decided to embark on reading it. The contents of the novel and a majority of it hit home with the different situations and circumstances that the characters went through.…

An internal conflict I found in each of the characters was the choice between doing the right thing and doing the wrong thing. Each character found that peer pressure got the best all of them and if they were to succeed and over-achieve, they would have to rebel from it. Knowing that their family members were rooting for them and counting on them, they finally decided to get their acts together and buckle down. Sooner or later they found out that hitting the books wasn’t as difficult as they made it out to be. They all felt that they had made some hard and wrong decisions because they didn’t stand up for what was right and tried to follow along with the crowd. After these experiences, I guess they realized their reality was what they made of it, not what others attempted to make it. Throughout their college years spent together, the three learned to help each other stay focused and achieve their dreams, leading them into a world of success, intelligence, and happiness.…

Books have the gift to heal wounds, to sooth troubled minds, to make us dream and hope. When we are alone, books are our best friends; they entertain us in our spare moments. Good novels, books on poetry and short stories, give great enjoyment. At times we become so absorbed in our books that we forget even our important engagements.
