To identify the dyes present a sample of the beverage was tested in a spectrometer, the highest absorption rates were found to be at 503.7 nm (A=0.281) and 630.7 nm (A=0.270). This lead to the conclusion that the beverage contained red 40 and blue 1. To determine the concentration of the dyes a series of dilutions was prepared for both dyes and tested with the spectrometer. This data was converted into point graphs and a trendline was established. The slope of the trendline (y=mx) was then multiplied by the Absorbance of the associated dye to find the concentration. The final goal was to replicate the beverage using the data gathered. To accomplish this a solution was designed consisting of 15.34% red 40 and 14.12% blue…

From 1985 to 1997, school districts decreased the amount of milk they bought by nearly thirty percent and increased purchases of soda by one-thousand and one-hundred percent. (Roberts) About fifty-six to eighty-five percent of school age children consume at least one soft drink daily. (Roberts) Children these days are not getting enough calcium, mainly because of the large consumption of soft drinks. Instead of grabbing a glass of milk, most kids, teens and adults would rather drink soda. The effects of the preservatives and artificial sweeteners can break down the enamel on your teeth, making them prone to rotting. The reason that most people who drink to much soda have or are more prone to rotting teeth, cavities, etc., is because sugary drinks coat you teeth, gums and tongue for hours after you drink them, and most people don’t rinse or brush their teeth right after drinking soda. Isopropyl alcohol is a clear, colorless, flammable, mobile liquid, (CH3)2CHOH, used in antifreeze compounds, in lotions and cosmetics, and as a solvent for gums, shellac, and essential oils. It did great job at pulling stains right out of the cloth. This products alone got rid of almost all the stains besides the red sharpie.…
