Sports Management and Marketing Degree Requirements

The four-year sport marketing and management program leads to the degree, Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, with course work taken in conjunction with the Kelly School of Business. Students admitted to this program are selected from a pool of applicants. Admission to the program is limited. Graduation requirements include:

* completion of general education requirements. * completion of sport marketing and management major requirements. * a minimum of 124 successfully completed credit hours which count toward the degree program. * a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. * a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA in a combination of ANAT-A 215 and courses with the following department code-prefixes: HPER-A, HPER-D, HPER-K, and HPER-P. * No Pass/Fail except for free electives.

General Education (20 – 39 credits)
All undergraduate students must complete the IU Bloomington campus-wide general education common ground requirements. Such students must visit the 2012-2013 General Education Bulletin to view these requirements.

Sport Marketing and Management Foundation Requirement (15 cr.)
Complete each of the following courses:

Sport Marketing and Management Professional Requirement (21 cr.)
Complete each of the following courses:

▪ HPER-P 304 Sport Industry Studies (3 cr.) or HPER-P 328 Issues in Intercollegiate Athletics (3 cr.)

    When there is no GPA requirement student athletes are able to complete their four years without a degree and at worst not even learning anything. Take for example, former defensive end for the Washington Redskins, Dexter Manley who left Oklahoma State University after four years, illiterate, unable to even read about his previous game’s accomplishments in the sports page on Monday morning. Another example is former running back for the University of Iowa, Ron Harmon whose course load included such courses as bowling, billiards, and watercolor painting.
