Soft prosperity theology
Prosperity theology is a theology contrary to the Biblical teachings. It is a worldly gospel of wealth and health without Jesus and His salvation. According to the real gospel, Jesus died for our sins so that we can reconnect with God and have eternal life. Out of the Biblical context, several verses were singled out and preached, which is if we believe hard enough and claim and give to certain people, then we will be healthy and wealthy. This gospel is a fake gospel.
However, I have to admit I preached the fake gospel. Many times, I told people to come to our church. If you come to our church, you will have a better marriage. If you come to our church, your children will be less rebellious. If you come to our church, you can know some business people that can help you out and give you a good job. If our hard work gives us a better life, our prayers answered and we are healed, we should thank God and praise His name. But we cannot manipulate God and set up a guideline for Him to follow. We are not God, but He is God. God has all authority over the world including our circumstances. I believe God can heal us, but on our agenda. He has full authority.
If we observe carefully, we should know who gets the glory. Nowadays, the TV evangelists get glory and wealth. If there are people indeed got healed and becoming prosperous, the glory should go to God instead of man. If the audience just get health and wealth but do not get the God who can bless them still go to hell, it is a tragedy. Both the prosperity evangelist and the audience are condemned.
We live in a very corrupted world. The materialism and consumerism get into Church and is corrupting God’s church. If we preach health and wealth instead of Jesus and Him crucified, we will hear Him say: I do not know where you are from; DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU EVILDOERS. (Luke 13:28)”
