An Academic Discipline, or field of study, is a branch of knowledge that is taught and researches at the college or university level. Fields of study usually have several sub-disciplines or branches, and the distinguishing lines between these are often both arbitrary and ambiguous. Academic Disciplines are used and taught in our everyday life. Humanities, Natural Sciences, Psychology, Social Sciences, Communications and Technology are six disciplines that we encounter daily and continue to learn about.
The Humanities are academic disciplines that study the human condition, using methods that are primarily analytical, critical, or speculative. The Humanities disciplines are an important part of the intellectual and creative history of mankind. The humanities are said to consist of those branches of knowledge that concern themselves with human beings and their culture or with the analytical and critical methods of inquiry from an appreciation of human values and the ability of the human spirit to express itself. Two branches of Humanities consist of language and literature.
The language branch of Humanities consists of learning the way people communicate in different speaking countries. It brings a sense of culture to individuals as they are likely to be taught the various history and origins of the languages they learn. The study of individual modern and classical languages forms the backbone of modern study of the humanities. French is a sub-branch of the discipline language. French is used as the official language of 22 countries. Learning the French language would be a great opportunity and a great skill to have if ever exploring job opportunities in a related country.
Literature refers to novels, short stories, plays and so on. Individuals attempt to decipher the meaning of texts and look into symbolism and themes. Literature introduces us to new worlds of experience. We learn about books and literature; we enjoy the comedies and tragedies of poems, stories, and plays. Ultimately, we may discover meaning in literature by looking at what the author says and how he says it. A poem conveys experiences, ideas, or emotions in a vivid and imaginative way, characterized by the use of language chosen for its sound and suggestive power.
The natural sciences are branches of science that seek to explain the rules that govern the natural world by using empirical and scientific methods. Natural sciences are the basis for applied sciences. Together, the natural and applied sciences are distinguished from the social sciences on one hand and humanities on the other. The phrase natural science is also sometimes used to refer to natural history. Within the natural sciences, the term hard science is sometimes used to describe the branches which people view as relying on experimental accurate data. Astronomy and biology fall under these branches.
Astronomy is the science of celestial objects and phenomena that originate outsides the earth’s atmosphere. Astronomy includes the examination, study and modeling of stars, planets, comets, galaxies and the cosmos. Chemistry is a sub branch of astronomy that involves understanding the properties and interaction of individual atoms for use in larger scale applications. The success of this science led to a complementary chemical industry that now plays an important role in our economy.
Biology is a branch of natural science, and is the study of living organisms and how they react to their environment. Biology deals with every aspect of life in a living organism. Biology examines the structure, function, growth, origin, evolution, and distribution of living things. Genetics is a principle that forms the foundation of modern biology. Genetics is the science of genes, heredity and variation in living organisms. Genetics can be applied to the study of all living systems, from viruses and bacteria, through plants and domestic animals, to humans.
Psychology is the scientific study of the...
