As a social worker, working in a social service organization, there are many laws, regulations, and policies that must be followed when providing services. In this case study, Stacey was confronted with a request from her client, Matthew, to maintain a copy of his treatment records. Under the HIPAA Privacy Rule (2017) it is a participant’s right to view and/or request a copy of his health care record. Therefore, Stacey has an obligation to provide Matthew with his records. However, due to Stacey’s concerns about the content of her notes, as a Quality Improvement Manager, I would provide her with several options.
