Type of marriage
Arranged marriage- a marriage arranged by the families of the couple Shotgun marriage- a marriage forced or required because of pregnancy. Marriage of convenience- A marriage or joint undertaking arranged for political, economic, or social benefit rather than from personal attachment. Elope- to run off secretly to be married, usually without the consent or knowledge of one's parents. kinship term
Manogamy - single marriage of one man and one woman.
polygamy- The practice or custom of having more than one wife or husband at the same time. polygyny- which a man has more than one wife.
polyandry-which a woman has more than one husband.
Choice of partners
Endogamy- the custom of marrying only within the limits of a local community, clan, or tribe. Exogamy- The custom of marrying outside a community, clan, or tribe. Descent
Patrillneal- relating to or based on relationship to the father or descent through the male line. Matrilineal- follow the female
bilineal- follow both patriline and the matriline.
Residence after marriage
Patrilocal- living with the family of the husband
Matrilocal- which the couple live with the wife's family
Neolocal- a married couple living together at a new residence. Authority
Patriarchal- father is the head of the family.
matriachal- A woman who rules a family, clan, or tribe.
Equalitarian- equal sharing of authority between mother and father. Divorce- the legal dissolution of a marriage.
legal separation- An arrangement by which a husband and wife remain married but live apart, following a court order. Annulment-
