The first chapter has given you an overview of some of the basic variation of social research, many pf which can be useful in writing the introduction of your research proposal. For this assignment, you should first identify a research topic of question you might like to explore in a project. Perhaps you would like to investigate some topic relating to race, gender or social class. Perhaps there is some aspect of college that you think needs study. Once you have a research topic in mind you can review this chapter for some ideas on how you might organize your research and what approaches you might want to take. The introduction is an overview of the project, so it should take only two or four paragraphs. Try to select a topic that you’ll use throughout the book, as the address different aspects of the research process in each chapter.
Here are some examples of research questions, to illustrate the kind of focus of your project might take. Do woman make less money that men? If so why? What are some differences that distinguished juvenile gangs formed within different ethic groups? Which academic departments at your college offer the broadest degree of liberal arts training? Is it true as some suggest, that the United States was establish as a Christian nation? What are the major functions of the American family and how have those been changing overtime?
