SMART Goals
My first goal it to earn an 85% or more for each of my classes by the end of the semester. I will be able to achieve this goal by doing my homework, projects and all the necessary work that is assigned to me. In addition, I will study and reviewing material on a daily basis for a higher grade on exams, tests and quizzes and paying attention and participating to receive a high grade for my classwork. Maintaining a good overall average in all of my classes throughout my school year will help me keep a good GPA and to be accepted into a good college or university.

My second smart goal is to increase my class participation by the end of the school year. My goal is to participated in group discussions and be prepared to share information by doing the homework that is given on a daily basis or taking notes to refer back on at least 3 times a day. By participating more in class, my classwork grade will increase and also raise my average for a particular class.

My third goal is to improve my writing skills by the end of the year. This can be attained by expanding my vocabulary through different writing materials and learning new words daily and incorporating them into my everyday conversations. Also practicing different writing styles such as poetry and story writing can help me as well. In addition, reading several classics written by well known authors can teach me different writing techniques and improve my vocabulary. Having good writing skills will boost my confidence when writing and help make my written pieces more interesting to read.

Graduating with an 3.5 GPA at the age of 23 is my long-term academic goal. By me setting it to an 3.5 is a high limitation for me. Passing development 1 math final exam with an letter grade B is my intermediate academic goal. Goals are a fundamental part of success in collage and beyond. Some of the most effective goals are SMART goals. This mnemonic device stands for Specific, Meaningful (Measureable), Actionable, Realistic, and Timed. I have noted the importance of these types of goals and have decided to apply it to a goal of my own. My goal is to “Remain on the dean’s list(or academic merit for co-op semesters) for the entirety of my college career by completing all course work early and an additional 10 hours per week studying.” As outlined in the following text I will demonstrate how this goal is a SMART goal.…

    Smart Goals

When most people are asked what goals they have, a lot of people will not be able to think of something off the top of their head. If they have any goals in mind it is likely that they have had those goals for a while or at least thought about them in depth at some point. However, the majority of goals that people set for themselves are either to broad or just unrealistic overall. For example, if someone says that their goal is to lose 100lbs in a month obviously that is unachievable and extremely dangerous. When I look at the goals that I chose to list above, I understand what the goal is and have the overall concept of what I want to achieve with that goal. However, after putting my goals in the smart goal format I can see a big difference in what they mean to me. The smart goal format helps narrow down the overall purpose that I am trying to achieve. For example, the first goal that I put on my original list is buy a house. Now if I were to put that in a back of my mind and say that is a goal that I want to achieve in the future it could become a lost cause. By using the smart goal format I have narrowed the goal from an unlimited amount of time to two years and have set a specific amount to save up to in order to make my mortgage payments lower than they would be with no down payment and therefore easier to choose where I want to live. When I look at the second goal that I listed I see that it is another open ended goal. When I…
