SMART Goal Setting Process Reaching and maintaining a healthy weight is important for overall health and can help you prevent and control many diseases and conditions. That is why I am using the SMART goal setting process to lose tem pounds by the end of the year. I picked this specific fitness goal because I think it is crucial to feel good about yourself and keep a healthy weight. This goal is not going to be achieved on its own; it’s going to have some obstacles in the way. I am going to have to push myself every day in P.E as well as work out at home. By using the SMART goal setting process I am setting a realistic goal for myself to achieve so that I am healthy and can feel good about myself. My specific goal is to lose ten pounds by the end of the semester. By doing this I can be happy with my weight and fit into a size three. This goal will be measured by weighing myself every day in the morning before I go to school. I will know my goal is accomplished when I step on the scale and see the number 110. Losing ten pounds will be very challenging but it will still be attainable. It will be challenging because I’m not used to working out on a daily basis and it will take time to make it a daily routine. In order to achieve my goal I need to participate in P.E and so some sort of activity daily. My goal is realistic and I am more than committed to my goal. I want to reach this goal because I want a perfect swimsuit body for California this summer. My goal is relevant to my life purpose because if I get in the habit to work out every day at a young age, I can continue when I am an adult. Achieving this goal will help me lead the life that I want to have because I won’t have to be self-conscious about my weight and I will be happy. Usually, when people set fitness goals they end up stopping because they don’t have enough time or they quit because they get lazy. I, on the other hand will have plenty of time to finish

Throughout my journey through this class I have been able to think of many goals to set for myself to allow me to be healthier. First, I will start with my nutritional goals. The first nutritional goal I will talk about is my daily caloric intake. From now on, I plan to limit my daily calories to 1200 making sure I do not fall below the 1200 count. I realize how important it is to consume at least 1200 calories a day; falling below the 1200 calorie count can lead to…

According to the Transtheoretical Model, I am currently in the Maintenance stage. My last two New Year’s resolutions have been to increase my healthy eating and exercise. Daily my focus is to eat right, and exercise. These past two years I’ve been shopping at Moms organic store. I shop there and buy fresh vegetables ranging from carrots to onions. Super fruits such as bananas and avocado are always on the list. Oats and bananas has become my favorite breakfast meal. I even buy organic pasture raised eggs. From my knowledge those are the highest quality to eggs to buy. Costing me 8 dollars a dozen! I even cook my own meals at home buying organic pasta and meats. The gym isn’t really my thing, so each day at home I go through a workout routine. The routine consists of pushups, diamond pushups, leg ups, a form of crunches and squats. I try to incorporate at least 60 minutes of exercise a day. I use a app on my phone to track my activity. If I don’t; obtain 60 minutes by my regular daily activity, I go out for jogs in my…

During this project I decided to use my analytical skills to research on this subject before diving in unprepared. I researched what exercises I could do daily, and what foods I could eat to be healthy and as well as how to stay motivated throughout this journey. I was truly and honestly determined to begin and achieve this goal. There were many target behaviors I was determined on changing such as my phone use and procrastination. These two were the leading factors that lead to me failing and giving up the other times I attempted at improving my health and fitness management. I knew I had to cut down on my phone use and start facing things instead of pushing it off. To do this, I decided to create a schedule for my day, labeling when to do things and leaving small breaks in between for phone use during snack time. Limiting phone use and procrastination not only helped me with my goal, but also with other components of my life such as homework…

The health/nutrition problem that I will be targeting will be my weight. The other problems will be affected by the weight which would be blood pressure, risk of getting diabetes, low energy, depression, etc. Four nutritional or physical exercise goals that I have are to lose at least 100 pounds, lower blood pressure, increase energy and confidence and lower risk of obtaining any other health problems such as diabetes. The actions that will be taken to meet each goal are to obtain a membership to an exercise facility, obtain a membership with a trainer, and work with trainer on an exercise plan and a nutritional plan as well. The anticipated setbacks or difficulties and approaches for overcoming them are the temptations to eating unhealthy foods in which I will remove myself from the situation so those temptations will not be available, loss of interest when it comes to actually going to working out either alone or with trainer in which I will change plan slightly to keep motivated enough to keep going. What I see as outcomes by which to measure success is the way that clothes are fitting will help determine the success of weight loss and weigh-in once a week to determine weight loss success. Evidence of the Plan’s effectiveness in addressing the identified problem or need will be the main piece of evidence in which will be my overall personal feelings and looks after goal is reached. Evaluation of potential health risks that may develop if the plan is not implemented is if I don’t follow through with this goal of losing the weight needed in order to improve my health then the risks involved could be higher blood pressure, end up diabetes, possible heart attack, depression worsens, etc. There are many different ways that my plan may be adjusted if there is a time when I am not physically capable of following through. I could step down the cardio workouts that I am currently on now. At this time I do between 30 to 45 minutes cardio Monday through Friday in the early…

    Smart Goals

When most people are asked what goals they have, a lot of people will not be able to think of something off the top of their head. If they have any goals in mind it is likely that they have had those goals for a while or at least thought about them in depth at some point. However, the majority of goals that people set for themselves are either to broad or just unrealistic overall. For example, if someone says that their goal is to lose 100lbs in a month obviously that is unachievable and extremely dangerous. When I look at the goals that I chose to list above, I understand what the goal is and have the overall concept of what I want to achieve with that goal. However, after putting my goals in the smart goal format I can see a big difference in what they mean to me. The smart goal format helps narrow down the overall purpose that I am trying to achieve. For example, the first goal that I put on my original list is buy a house. Now if I were to put that in a back of my mind and say that is a goal that I want to achieve in the future it could become a lost cause. By using the smart goal format I have narrowed the goal from an unlimited amount of time to two years and have set a specific amount to save up to in order to make my mortgage payments lower than they would be with no down payment and therefore easier to choose where I want to live. When I look at the second goal that I listed I see that it is another open ended goal. When I…

To get that college acceptance letter took you thirteen years give or take, to get your dream job took another few years for school, getting experience, etc. Learning an instrument took a tremendous amount of time and practice to get to where you are now. You may not be first chair, but you're also a lot better than the people who have never even tried to learn how to play. Self-discipline is important to your success, in anything you do. You can't be the athlete to beat if you never practice and you'll never reach your bench press weight if you never train. It may seem like a lot at the moment, but if you take it one day at a time, it's less daunting. If you want to lose ten pounds and you sit and think about how you're going to do it instead of going to the gym and trying to it seems nearly impossible. Have your goal, but don't let that stop you from seeing what's in front of you. One work out is done you need to get yourself to the next one. Soon enough you'll have shed five pounds without realizing it and then one day you would have already reached your goal. Just think, one foot in front of the other. You've all heard slow and steady wins the race, don't push your body too far. There might be a deadline for whatever goal you're trying to achieve, but your body can only take so much. You cannot lose ten pounds in ten days because you didn't gain those ten pounds in a matter of days. It gradually added on…

My goal is probably not one that most people would set for themselves. Most people set their goals in terms of their education, career, and family. My goal is to lead a healthier life style because I got tired living with obesity and being unhealthy. At the age of eleven, my doctor officially diagnosed me as an obese child. Being overweight did not affect me personally while I was growing up in my country of Saudi Arabia. People in my country are not as concerned with looks are as Californians. Saudi Men all wear the same thing, white garment called "Thoob," so no one was different from the others. When I moved to California, I began to feel social pressure to drop my excess weight, the sooner the better. Californians have an ideal image of men as slim and athletic. I felt so pressured for being different that I sited a goal to lead a healthier life style for myself to achieve. I had multiple problems living with obesity, such as poor body image, social pressure, low self-esteem, and to seek parent's approval. With the negative experience of childhood obesity, I have come to learn a valuable lesson to pursue and maintain a healthier life style.…
