Sixth Grade Observation
Sixth grade is a wonderful year for students. The students have transitioned from the elementary school to the middle school. This transition can be both scary for the sixth grade teachers and their students. This week I had the opportunity to observe a fellow coworker teaching sixth graders social studies. To the least, I was impressed. This teacher really has things together. He is a second year teacher, and is familiar with the Charlotte Danielson’s framework. However, I do remember the framework frightening him last year. Yet, this year he is a more comfortable and engaging teacher. It is noticsable that he is putting more work into planning for his class. Domain 1, was a struggle for him last year. He was a new teacher that

In today’s society, private and public schools have paid more attention on education; however, there is abundance of room for the private and public schools to improve on their ways to teach education. What schools need to do is bring in new and appropriate academic class, to maintain control and to make sure that they are teaching on a continuous base and using the current standards provided by their department of education (Colliver, 2011).…

Among Schoolchildren, by Tracy Kidder, could not be summed up by describing a fifth grade classroom in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Kidder has underlying messages about education that is placed in the characters experiences throughout the book. The author does not only show how the teacher interacts with the students, but how she reacts to different situations she encounters throughout the school year. Whether the encounters are horrible or joyful, Mrs. Zajac, the fifth grade school teacher, comes in everyday ready to teach her students. Although Kidder did not write this book to say what should or what should not be implicated into public schools, but readers can understand that he is devising questions about public education and what it does and does not accomplish. Year-round schooling is an important factor in an elementary school child’s success. Choosing year-round schooling for students can increase individual achievement, but also promotes stability in a child’s life, allows for remediation when called for, and increases retention rates.…

A school that has history, this school was established in 1867 and went public in 1888. Looking at RRHS when you first pull up seems like a descent size school with a modest old look. When you drive around the school it is expanded out much like a junior college and has a college feeling. There are 11 buildings on this campus not including their football field, track, marching band pad, baseball field and the amount of parking for both students and staff.…

I have had the opportunity to go to two middle schools due to moving locations. This paper is going to be based on my experiences at Hermosa Middle School in Farmington, New Mexico. Since, this where I started caring more about my education and I can relate more to this placement. To begin with, Hermosa Middle School serves grade from 6th-8th. The demographic in this school is about 42% Caucasian, 31% Hispanic, 23% Native-American, 2% Asian, and 2% African-American. Notice, that there is a high population of Hispanics, I believe that this is why I started to be more involve at school. Prior to moving to Farmington, New Mexico; I lived and attended a junior high school in Huntington, Utah where 5% were Hispanic. I can honestly state, “That Hermosa Middle School is a contemporary developmentally responsive middle schools”. I quote this because I can point out the differences between what both schools had offered me as a student.…

Washington Elementary School is located in West Orange, New Jersey in a neighborhood where mostly African American and Hispanic businesses and people were surrounding the area. As I arrived to the school or left, I usually only saw minorities in the surrounding neighborhood. This correlated with the students I saw in the classroom I observed, and throughout the school. In the classroom there was a total of 17 students, all of which were minorities. Ten of the students are Hispanic and seven are African American. I did not see too many White or Asian students throughout the school, or in the neighborhood. However, the racial and ethnic demographics for West Orange showed that the majority of the population is White. Statistics on race and ethnicity show that 62.1% of West Orange identify as being White, 17.1% as being Black, 10% as being Hispanic, 8.1% as being Asian, 2.4% as being two…

Mrs. Johnson has always been known as one of the hardest teachers at Bayou Academy, but on my first day of seventh grade, I was able to experience just how good she lives up to her reputation. It was a very nerve-racking day for me, being in high school for the first time scared me. But, there was something else about this day that scared me even more and that was going to Mrs. Johnson's class. As I walked into her classroom for the first time, I realized I wasn't the only one scared. The students already sitting in their desks all had pale faces and looked as if they had seen a ghost. We were all scared of failure. The first day…

For this activity, I observed a third grade teacher doing a common core math lesson and used the categorical frequency instrument to determine the Bloom’s level of the questions being asked by the teacher. This shows me how often higher order thinking questions were being used versus lower level questioning. I never realized before how many low level questions teachers ask their students, that do not require comparison, problem solving, or critical thinking. I chose this technique because our district is working to improve critical thinking by asking deeper questions. This data can be used to help the teacher develop better questioning in the future through understanding what level of questioning they use most often. For example, the teacher…
