Since the opening of Loblaw in 1919, the grocery super-chain has taken great leaps to become what it is today. The company takes pride in providing Canadians with quality products with easy access and competitive pricing. Loblaw focuses on supporting local produce by working with suppliers within Canada, but also promises on delivering fresh produce and high quality food items from across the globe. The annual report is highly organized and visually appealing. Certain statements are made in the beginning of the report to make the reader become more comfortable with the company and these statements greatly work in favor for the company. There are some recurring themes, which only enhances their company message and mission statement to their customers. But the financial reporting and trends are analysed by biased opinions and are done so under legal protection.…

    Timken Report

Investment Thesis The Timken Company is the largest tapered roller bearings manufacturer in the world and one of the largest manufacturers of alloy and specialized steel in the world. The company reports revenues in three business segments: Steel (31% of 2005 revenue), Automotive (32%), and Industrial (37%). I feel that Timken is capable of delivering solid EPS and top-line revenue growth over the next two years, driven largely by demand for industrial bearings and steel products in key end-markets, including aerospace & defense, energy, rail, mining, and construction. Timken’s Industrial and Steel margins have been expanding since 2004, and with strong demand for the company’s products and global capacity constraints, I forecast margin expansion through 2008.…

Bill Davenhall spoke on the formula for life and good health. This formula consists of genetics, lifestyle, and environment. If we managed these risks, we could live a good life and healthy one as well. Exposing ourselves to risks not seen are the leading causes to diseases. Our place history is an important factor. We must educate the physicians about geomedicine. I believe adding place history in the medical record would be a major discovery of the cause of an illness or disease. This would be vital to the physicians and researchers. Listening to this seminar puts great light on why “geography always…

Muscle action is often described as departures from the standard position of the body, the anatomical position. Muscle fiber is an interaction of organelles and molecules within myosin binds to actin and exerts a pulling action. The result of this movement with myofibrils in which the filaments of actin and myosin slide past one another. This action shortens or contracts muscle fiber so that it pulls on its attachment. Muscle are stimulated by a chemical reaction called acetylcholine, it synthesizes in the cytoplasm of a motor neuron and stored in vesicles at the distal end of the motor neuron axons. Each muscle fiber is packed with myofibrils, which is bundles of contractile filaments made up of actin and myosin. A longitudinal view of a myofibril reveals the reason for the striated appearance of skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle. The myofibril consists of repeating units, called sarcomeres, which are the units of contraction. Each sarcomere is made of overlapping filaments of actin and myosin, which create a distinct band pattern. As the muscle contracts, the sarcomeres shorten, and the appearance of the band pattern changes. When the muscle contracts, the sarcomere shortens. The H zone and the I band become much narrower, and the Z lines move toward the A band as if the actin filaments. When a muscle is stimulated, a short latent period follows, during which it is taking up the stimulus. It then contracts, where it becomes short and thick, and finally it relaxes and elongates. Muscles can also become fatigued meaning that if a muscle has being strenuously exercised for a prolonged period may lose its ability to contract. The interruption in the muscle’s blood supply or if ,lack of acetylcholine in motor neuron axons may cause fatigue , however fatigue is mostly arise from accumulation of lactic acid in the muscle as a result from a strenuous breathing. The lactic acid buildup lowers PH and as a…

For my field assignment I attended a program called Babies, Books and Bubbles, at my local public library in Shrewsbury, Ma. The library is located on 609 Main Street Shrewsbury, MA 01545 and the program is available to the public for caregivers/parents and their babies whose ages can range from birth to two years old. The program had one female main speaker named Sharon Martin, who is the head of the children’s department at the library. The program was free, but required you to obtain “tokens” from the Children’s Program Front Desk to gain admission to the program. These “tokens” were a form of registration the library uses to make sure they did not overbook the program. They became available at 10 am on the day of the program,…

A transistor is a semiconductor device used to amplify and switch electronic signals and electrical power. It is composed of semiconductor material with at least three terminals for connection to an external circuit. A voltage or current applied to one pair of the transistor 's terminals changes the current flowing through another pair of terminals. Because the controlled (output) power can be higher than the controlling (input) power, a transistor can amplify a signal. Today, some transistors are packaged individually, but many more are found embedded in integrated circuits.…
