Similarities Between Islam And Democracy
Islam and democracy are two completely different subjects. As a religion, Islam has laws and rules that bind its believers as the Shari'a. Meanwhile, democracy is a political system that also has very different rules of the game to Islamic law. But, that does not mean the two have no intersection.

As a religion rahmatan lil alamin, Islam has the goal to provide salvation to all mankind. Accentuate a sense of humanity and put forward a harmonious life. As cited in the surat al-Hujurat:13, that man was created in different ethnics and nations is to establish a fraternity. Not to fight each other.

Not only that, Islam also encourage adherents to respect other religions. As well cited in the Quran "to you your religion, and unto me my religion",

The world is peaceful in the difference tribes, Nations and races. Safeguard the rights of individuals to live alongside each other peacefully without fear of losing their identity.

This has similarities with the ideas of democracy to give each individual to run his life with freedom. In democracy, every individual is the same. We call it as human rights.

Democracy, as said by Immanuel Kant in Preppetual Peace, being one of the key to the sustainability of peace. A Government that is representative, according to Kant, is the Government implementing democracy. That ultimately convince Robert Dahl, that among our fellow democracies there is a an unwritten Pact not to fight each other.

This intersection was later realized by the founder of the nation of Indonesia. As a nation made up of many different tribes, Nations, races and religions, it is need a bond that can make Indonesia has always been a unity. So, in being a nation, the founders agreed to choose the format of the unitary State based on Pancasila as ideology, and democracy as the political system.
