Should Students Stay In School
In the past and even now, people have been discussing if the State of Florida should raise the age for students in school. Students should stay in school until 18 for two reasons. One reason is because they will get a higher education. Another reason is because they will get a better job and income. On the opposing side, some people argue that students should not stay in school until they're 18 because classroom issues arise from these students. However, there are many more significant reasons for students should stay in school until 18.

Imagine someone being 17 years old with a few months left until high school graduation and on their own with the future to think about; that person was me. I decided that I was going to wait a couple of years before I went back to school and I really wish that I wouldn’t have. If I wouldn’t have waited, I would already be done with my degree and making good money. Students should attend college immediately after high school to better their education, achieve independence, and earn higher wages.…

I disagree with Leon Botstein's essay "Let Teenagers Try Adulthood". Botstein argues that teenagers have matured much more quickly over the past few years. Therefore, he believes high school be abolished and a child's education should begin earlier in order for students to graduate around the age of sixteen rather than eighteen. High school is intended for students of a certain maturity level. But now, students are exceeding that level rapidly. Botstein sees high school as a place full of superficial, adolescent teenagers that care more about appearances, popularity, cliques and sports than education. Because they have reached a high maturity level at such a young age already, there are many students that are wasting their junior and senior years away in high school rather than starting college. I disagree with Botstein however. High school is a transition period for students to learn how to take on more responsibilities. It is the time for teenagers to become more social and independent. While I do agree with Botstein on his point of maturity levels growing faster, I don't agree that students should be graduating earlier than they currently are. Not all students are capable of the same things. Most high school students are not prepared to enter into adulthood just yet. They still need someone to guide them along a path until they've graduated. Age restrictions are applied to the youth community for a reason. The majority of teenagers are not ready to handle the responsibilities that come their way. The legal age for drinking is 21 because of safety concerns as well as the responsibility that comes with the consumption of alcohol. Fortunately for Texas, teenagers are able to obtain their drivers license at the age of sixteen, but other states, like California, have citizens wait until they are eighteen to obtain their license with the same privileges as a sixteen year old from Texas. Responsibilities are tough to handle, even for an adult. So why have the same…

High school should remain four years. One of the reasons is that students will loose interest in the education if there is a fifth year. By the time students become seniors, they have already lost some interest and are excited to be able to graduate. If a fifth year is added students may drop out of school and only work through the normal four years.…

Kids should go to year round school. Students should go to year round school because most families can't afford summer vacations and activities so most kids sit in bed all day playing with their electronics. The U.S is also lagging behind its fellow countries and the U.S education level is going down. Therefore kids should have year round school. Most people think that this could help kids in more than one…

One reason people should stay in school until they’re 18 is because people will get a higher income. As said by Missy Remiss on the WSCH radio,”Those without a high school diploma have lower earnings.” This means that people won’t get as much money as if they finished high school, or went through college. Also, the data analysis chart shows that people who drop out of high school only earn a total of 19,540 dollars a year as opposed to people who…

When a student is a junior or senior they have become responsible for their own actions. When these students go off campus they are gaining a privilege and if they are irresponsible they will have to pay the consequences. Also by the time someone is 16 they have matured and have become more responsible so they can handle the privilege of going off campus and returning to school on time for their next class. If they decide not to return to class after lunch they will get Saturday School Hours and for seniors you cannot have any Saturday School Hours to graduate. So if the students decide to ditch and gain lots of Saturday School Hours then they are risking not graduating. This then means they will have little or no success after high school. So if the students decide to ditch and take this risk they will be responsible for their decision in the long run. In the end going off campus is a responsibility for any student and by this time they are responsible for their own actions and their actions will decide what they do with their life. So if the student wants to be homeless and unsuccessful then they will decide to ditch and not graduate because of it.…

“Education is the transmission to civilization.” From the start of kindergarten kids are required to begin being educated. This is the period where a person begins to learn their very first skills of life. From this time until the age of 18, education becomes a part of life, if so chose. Today in our society education is being more stressed on the younger generations, in order to be able to make a decent financial living. As we become more technology dependent and everyday essential prices increase, the only option many have is to further their education to be able to make a substantial income. If a person at the age of 16 so decides that school is not going well, they do not enjoy it, or want to continue with it any longer they have the right to drop out. Based on my experience at that age, as well as many others of whom I know, giving up or dropping out is the easiest way to get out of something. If we raise the age limit to 18, it pushes them to keep going. School is like a marathon. Except in this marathon you have the choice to not go to the finish line if you don't want to, and instead stop at the marker before it. If we increase the age limit we can push teenagers to stay in school and give them more of a chance to embrace learning.…

Many students don’t like school, so an additional year may just be too much. Eventually, they will decide to drop out. More conflict will arise for those students who do not get along well with others. Most students think of school as a chore and not a privilege. They are desperate to get out of school. Adding another year will only discourage them in continuing their education. They will begin to feel like school will get them nowhere because they have been there for so long.…
