However, today children spend free time indoors watching television and playing video games using the technology of electronic equipment. This may make parents comfortable because in this changing world it allows them to control where their children are but allowing them to play outdoors is proven to improve their lives. According to a study of UK children three quarters spend less time outside than prison inmates. The study revealed a fifth of the children did not play outside at all on an average day. “The survey questioned a nationally representative sample of 2,000 parents of 5-12 year olds and found 74% of children spent less than 60 minutes playing outside each

Stress in children differs from adults, children lack the experience and communication skills in comparison to adults and, therefore, handle and express stress differently. Finnish researchers had 258 8-year-old boys and girls wear accelerometers on their wrists for at least four days that registered the quality and quantity of their physical activity. Their parents used cotton swabs to take saliva samples at various times throughout a single day, which the researchers used to assess levels of cortisol, a hormone typically induced by physical or mental stress. “Those results indicate a more positive physiological response to stress by children who were more active” (Hoffman, 2013). 36, Louv) defined as “the human costs of alienation from nature” affects more than just the parents of today’s generation. Because of parents being too busy to spend time with their child or let them play outside they just give them an electronic device to pay on thinking that it is a safer alternative to going outside where they could get injured or kidnapped. Unfortunately doing so is stifling the children’s creativity. Not allowing kids to be free to experience nature does a lot of harm, if people, especially children went outdoors more there would be no “Nature-deficit disorder”. Not only does not going outside squelch/REPRESS creativity, but it also causes both physical and mental damage. It is proven in that going outdoors makes people happier and healthier. Such evidence is shown in the South University study where Dr. Susanne Preston a professor at South University says, “being outside and spending time in nature is good for a person’s mental health, as it allows them to de-stress”. The less stress one has the more happy and healthy they are. If today’s youth are taught to go and play outside the same will carry on for their children and generations to come. The world could make monumental improvements if everyone, particularly children were outside more…

I think that if your kids like the sport that they are doing then I think it is worth the amount of money sports cost. If your kid doesn't like the sport why are you letting him/her play the sport.…

According to recent studies, children under the age of 2 are spending an average of 2 hours a day watching television or using other devices (such as computers and tablets), while children who are over the age of 8 years old spend approximately 7 hours per day in front of screens (including mobile phone use). And today’s busy families have fewer free moments to prepare nutritious, home-cooked meals. From fast food to electronics, quick and easy is the reality for many people in the new millennium”. Children today spend more time with electronics, be it the television, computer, or video game. Before the world became more dependent on these electronics, kids were involved in more outdoor physical activities. Last week while babysitting a two year-old girl, she wanted to run around and play outdoors. It wasn’t convenient at the time, so I whipped out my iPhone and found a cartoon on youtube.com for her to watch. I realized that I too am a culprit that deprived a child of exercise. “The value of physical activity to normal growth and development, including the health and well-being of children and adolescents is undisputed” (Hills, King and Armstrong 2007, p.…

When thinking of technology, many words spring to mind: innovative, fun, futuristic, essential. These positive words, however, do not encompass the whole of the issue of technology in the lives of young children. Technology, such as tablets, computers, smartphones, television, etc., has become so essential in life that it has been forgotten how to live without it, and it is this attitude that can be pushed onto the next generation of children. As soon as young children are able to grasp items, they are given a tablet, or put in front of a screen, instead of playing traditionally, with plush toys, imaginary play, or outside, in a sandpit, playing…

We no longer live in a society where kids run around actively throughout the neighborhood. Late night soccer games, pick up games in the park, and innocence children are gone in sports. Today children are more interested in video game, computers and television, and parents are afraid of letting their children run around the streets because of kidnapping. The majority of kids are no longer interested in physical activity. Why do most kids enjoy video games rather than sports? Video games were first introduced in the 70’s and have been gaining popularity ever since. By the end of the decade video games had already become a preferred activity for kids. According to a recent study by Harris Interactive 1,178 children in the U.S, almost 9 percent of children gamers are pathologically or clinically “addicted to video games. However, 23 percent of youth say that they have felt "addicted to video games," with about one-third of males and a little more than one in 10 females reporting the sensation. This is wrong, kids should not be addicted to anything at their age. Kids need to stop playing so many video games and start to playing more sports.…

Droning away on the computer next to me, my friend is able to completely zone out his surroundings; with each click of the mouse, he is exclusively in the virtual world he creates. His constant need to disappear from society and to construct his own, compels me to question the reason of why he’s doing what exactly he is doing. I do not have an answer why he does what he does but at least he’s doing something that he can be good at. However the reasons could be from a feeling of detachment from society or running away from a deeper problem that is put deep inside oneself and not directly confronted. Gaming is not the problem. It is merely something that is used to console and comfort. The excessive use of it, however, is what can hold harmful effects to normal behavior and social attitudes. It could turn into developing real psychological problems like social awkwardness , depression, difficulty in a job enviroment and relationships, being disconnected from reality and in some cases can develop into antisocial disorders. (Meek 2) With the number of gamers and games increasing each year, (Sinclair) changes need to be done for our future generations to be more engaged and more responsive with society. Beginning with parenting in such way that sets a good example of what it means to be a responsible and productive citizen, such as active parenting and atively pursuing a better responive citizen.…
