Should High School Students Be Allowed To Graduate Early

According to the U.S. Department of Education, the high school graduation rate has increased to eighty-one percent, the highest it has ever been. This increasing number is believed to be partially caused by the authorization of early high school graduation. I believe that graduating early from high school should be an option because students have more of an academic challenge, students are open to more opportunities, and students should not have to continue through high school if they already have enough credits to graduate. First and foremost, students should be allowed to receive more of an academic challenge than what high schools provide. A student can receive this challenge by choosing to graduate from high school a year early and attending college. After a student has been at a school for long, he may notice that the school no longer provides much of an academic challenge. If the attendance decreases, the money amount that is given to schools will also decrease. This would have a negative impact on the students who still attend the high school. Opposers also argue that students who want to graduate early are not mature enough for the college experience. They argue that the students are not mentally prepared for the academic challenges that are presented in college. Another factor that is brought up by opponents is the fact that early graduation programs do not help all students.
