Should Coding Be Taught In Schools? Should coding be allowed in schools? I think it should because coding produces creative activity and it could help with whatever career the kids want to go in. There is one downside though; the children will not understand it all so teachers should limit the amount of coding that is taught. The only downside to coding in school is the kids wouldn’t understand all of it. The information would be rushed to the children to fast. The material is too hard and too much to comprehend and the stress would get to the little children. Being taught coding isn’t a job but it helps with certain jobs.     Like any situation, there are pros and cons to both sides of the argument. According to Barshay (2014), “We had the money to buy them, but maybe not the best implementation. Not knowing how to integrate modern technology into a classroom setting is not a good enough reason to say giving students laptops is a bad idea. According to Hertz (2007), “The first step in successful tech integration is recognizing the change that may need to happen inside of yourself and in your approach to teaching” (p 1). Hertz argues that it is in fact possible to integrate technology into the classroom if the teachers are open to learning new ways to teach while incorporating technology. Another concern is addressed by Winnie Hu in an article about laptops in the classroom. Hu (2007) says, “The students at Liverpool High have used their school-issued laptops to exchange answers on tests, download pornography and hack into local businesses” (p 1). This article addresses some concerns that parents and teachers have about how much access their children are receiving.     I recently watched a video that struck my interest. It was a video created and funded by a foundation named Code.org. The basic premise of this video is to show how important coding was for several founders of multi-million dollar companies such as Microsoft (Bill Gates) and Facebook (Mark Zuckerberg), and how coding is not taught in grade school. Because coding is a specialized skill and requires specific instruction, it is not a course that would be offered to kids in grade school.
