Why has the shooting of eighteen year old Michael Brown affected my community? Some say it was a race issue others say it was police brutality. Racism being a very sensitive matter in the community that I live in, all though I do not live in Ferguson City, it is only a twenty minute drive from my front door. It has effected where I live as it brings up civil rights, police use of unlawful and deadly force, and racism issues. The shooting of this young man has rocked our communities, and it is more than likely to get worse before getting better. How can we stop events like this from happening in our communities? …show more content…
We as a people have the right to peaceful protest, freedom of speech, not be profiled, and not be unlawfully detained or restrained. One afternoon in Ferguson Missouri all of these rights got broken and started a horrible civil rights protest. Several Ferguson by police officers and other local law officials have been accused in recent lawsuits by citizen about civil rights violations. Some of these allegations include killing a mentally ill man with a Taser, hitting a child with a pistol. Choking and hog tying a child. Beating a man and charging him with property damage because his blood splatter on the officer 's clothes. A Mother (Tracey White) and her son was arrested for practicing her rights to freedom of speech while waiting for a ride home after peacefully

    In recent news, there has been much talk about the Ferguson racial issues. Ferguson, Missouri has become infamous for its recent riots and protests. An African American teenager named Michael Brown was shot and killed by a white police officer. What happened on the night of August 1st is Officer Wilson was notified of a robbery and pursued Brown in his vehicle. Wilson came across Brown and was able to stop him with his car. There was a confrontation that Wilson allegedly fear for his safety and felt the need to discharge his firearm. After and foot chase, the police officer took down Brown with a fatal shot. The after math of this caused many protests and riot among the black community. Many people claim that the officer did not need to shoot the teen. The court decided that Officer Wilson was not guilty and caused an uproar within the Ferguson community. The author of the recent article attempts to explain the cultural differences between their white and black community and why these mistakes could be made. The main problem here is that the white and black communities simply do not understand each other. In the author attempt to prove this, he analyzed a series of tests to explain why many people can be confused in interracial issues. When people before the test claimed that they “do not see color”, it proved to be wrong. In fact, when a child is born, at about three months of age they understand the concept of race and they will prefer to be around their own race. This is means that there is still a form of racism. We cannot deny the facts that human beings have different cultures and unique trends within each race. Having said this, it also does not mean that noticing these things make certain people racist.     I chose Cartoon 8, and I think that the cartoonist’s message is referring back to Martin Luther King Jr’s “I Have A Dream” speech that he called to end racism in the United States. In the cartoon, there is a police officer that is shooting a MLK statue that reads “I HAVE A DREAM”. In the Ferguson case, there are claims that indictment that the white police officer that shot the black male citizen was because the male was black, so that was why the police officer walked out free.     On April 20, 1999, the small town of Littleton, Colorado would forever be changed. On Tuesday morning two senior students by the name of Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold entered Columbine High School with the intent of killing hundreds of their classmates with guns, knives, and bombs that they hand made in their homes. They began opening fire on their peers and setting off explosives all around the school. Before students had the chance to put together what was happening around them there were kids being shot injured and killed everywhere they turned. Then, I looked up and saw the backs of two guys in black trench coats” (Miller) After being satisfied with the damage they have done in the cafeteria, they moved on through the halls and classrooms shooting anyone who was in their way or trying to get away from danger including Dave Sanders, a teacher who was helping injured students. Their next stop was the library which was where the death toll was the highest. After shouting for all the students to get up, they demanded that anyone who was wearing a white cap, better known as a jock, stand up. When no one stood up they began randomly shooting students that were sitting at desks or hiding beneath them. At one point one of the gunmen asked a girl if she believed in God, as soon as she said yes he shot her for praying. Klebold also shot a student simply because he was black, along with shooting them because they simply hated the whole school. After walking into the cafeteria again and shooting some more they returned to the library and went to the back where they shot themselves in the head and the ordeal was finally over. Although they were dead the policemen and paramedics could not enter the building right away because they did not know for sure if they were dead considering no one saw them actually commit…
