Shining Mountain
The “Shining Mountain” is a story about a girl named Pangma-La. Her father named her this special name because he wanted to name her after a mountain. Her friends and classmates tease her a lot with the special name, but the worst for her is that those who attend her school, is more interested in her father than they are in her. That's because her father is a famous mountaineer. The father has very high expectations for his daughter, but Pangma-La does not feel that she can live up to these expectations. Therefore, she decides that she once and for all will make him proud, so she begins to train in climbing mountains. As Pangma-La has trained enough, the father and she decides that they will take to the Pangma-La Mountain and conquer the mountain by reaching the top. Over by the mountain as they just are about to begin climbing the meet a Sherpa man. The man wants to carry their bags, but the father thanks no to that, because he did not believe that it is necessary because he and his daughter are strong enough to carry themselves. Pangma-La has many problems along the way to the top. An old Sherpa woman appears and offers her help to Pangma-La. Every day when the Sherpa woman comes she takes something from her. At the end the woman takes her heart and soul, and then the father realizes what his daughter has done, and he shows his real human

They end up taking some of the silver to a mineralogist to see the value of the mineral and they find out that it is silver. An abundance of money that you have not earned can corrupt you. They just happened to stumble upon the silver and took it to the mineralogist just to see what it was. My next quote shows how the silver really wasn't there's and that they didn't actually own the silver. "He was thinking how wonderful it was that at home in his poor parish stood a whole mountain of silver ore, waiting for him" .     Many people face pain and hardships throughout life and learn to accept reality using courage and strength. In the “Long Way Home” an excerpt from Miracle in the Andes, Nando Parrado faces many hardships. In the beginning of the novel Nando is heartbroken due to the fact that his plane has crashed in the Andes Mountains, and that many people including his best friends, and his mother, and sister have died. His thoughts haunt him, telling him to survive, and not “waste tears”, as they will be needed for his survival. Nando remembers his father and his heart fills with joy; he imagines how is father must be feeling, after hearing the news of the crash. He quietly whispers to his father “I am alive”. Nando describes the mountains being very strong and powerful, and lacking warmth. Nando vows to his father that he will ‘come home”, no matter how long it takes, and how worse the conditions become. Nando faces many difficulties as the story progresses, but his promise to his father gives him courage and strength to keep on going instead of giving up. “We all knew our fight for survival would be uglier and more harrowing than we had imagines, but we had made the declaration to the mountain that we would not surrender. In a small, sad way, I had taken a first step back toward my father.” Throughout the excerpt conditions worsen, many more of Nando’s friends die, and the food becomes scarce. With courage and strength, Nando decides that he must climb the mountain to save himself and reach home to his father. He takes a few friends with him for the journey. Along the way, he faces many hardships, but his determination and courage help him reach his goal. One day, Nando realizes that their pilot was wrong, and gave them incorrect information of “passing Curico”. As soon as he learns that his hopes shatter.
