Shania Twain Short Biography
Shania Twain Growing up, I always enjoyed listening to country music. When I was about 10 years old, my cousin gave me a C.D. of Shania Twain and after listening to it, I instantly fell in love with her and her music. Shania Twain aka Eilleen Regina Edwards was born in Windsor, Ontario, Canada on August 28, 1965. From a young age, her mother pushed her to pursue performing and even drove hours for singing lessons. She had a love for music and began playing guitar and writing songs by the age of 10 (Kettler). Having a rough childhood with little money and a father abandoning he, Shania was forced to sacrifice a lot to support her family and career. Making things harder, her mother and stepdad were killed in a car accident when she was only 22 and had to take up the responsibility to raise her siblings, which halted her musical career. Years later, she decided to begin performing again and even moved to Nashville where she recorded a couple of songs. In 1991 she changed her name to Shania (meaning "I'm on my way" in Ojibwa, it was the name of a co-worker), and signed a contract with Mercury …show more content…
She organized a program called Shania Kids Can which was set up for elementary school kids who have at home personal problems. She hopes to help at risk children and even donated $400,000 to the charity. She wants to let kids know where she has been and her struggles and help them through it and teach them valuable life skills in order to boost their self-image and self esteem (Taste of Country). Shania is a very inspiring woman to me. I have always loved her music, but overcoming the many obstacles in her life made me love her even more. The fact that even after her parents dies, she raised her siblings on her own which showed great strength and responsibility. She took on the challenges in her life and managed to get back on her feet and make everything fall into place just like she
