Sexism In Society

Many people do not understand that everyone is equal whether they are a man or a woman. Although gender is not only defined by being male or female, sexism when it comes to gender is a very disappointing thing that actually happens amongst humanity. Sexism is something that not only I have faced so many times in my life but that a lot of my friends around the world have also faced. Being a girl in the 21st century, not only have I endured an insane amount of sexism but have also seen it happen first hand. Even though not everyone believes in social equality between man and woman, I personally do. Gender has impacted me so much in my life and growing up in a male dominant household, with male dominate family members I was always being babied and told to “just sit and look pretty” while the “men” did all of the “hard work.”
The Millennial generation and generation X has a hard time accepting everyone as equal simply because the generation before us (our parents, grandparents, etc.) has taught us that being a boy means playing with cars, mud, and getting dirty, where are being a girl means playing with dolls,
In certain countries they limit girls to the right to education and honestly that is the worst thing someone could do. Sometimes women can be smarter than men and by limiting their right to an education you are possibly taking away another doctor or cancer treating worker just simply because they are a girl. I was the first female and child in my family to go to school and graduate high school and college while being on honour roll. Although this has nothing to do with gender because anyone can do this, I still feel this is a great impact in my life because there are male family members amongst my family who have not even made it past grade 10.
