John Wesley spoke about the “…way of prayer” in his sixteenth sermon. He spoke about prayer and waiting. I know about praying and waiting in desperate circumstances, in broken hearted hope, in excited anticipation of what could come, and in the hope for someone’s salvation. All areas in which quick answers never really came.…
When we pray as Christ taught us we find ourselves saying, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” When the will of God is obeyed, the kingdom, the reign of God is made present. It is easier to say this than it is to enact it. Every time I sin I put the kingdom of God away from me: but God’s will cannot be thwarted. It is up to me to remain within God’s kingdom, for if the gates close while I am without I will find myself in the eternal darkness where there is wailing and gnashing of teeth. And as Christ warns us, “But of that day and hour no one knows.” (Mt…

Goals can be personal or professional, long-term or short-term, but they help us track our course and stay on target for our future endeavors. Securing the image you see for your future requires straightforward ideas, dedication, and a passion to carry you through to the end. A goal is an end to which you direct your efforts. (Carter, Bishop, & Kravits, 2011, “Glossary”). The objectives desired by each individual acts as a compass, guiding each of us to ultimately build upon our blue print for life.…
The Bible is full of 7,487 promises of God quite a few of these promises demonstrate God enthusiasm to answer prayers.16 Once you develop a prayer life, then the next step is with boldness make your request known unto God for your needs and wants. When Jesus prayed, he was not timid, but he was exact and accurate when he prayed.17 We should follow the example Jesus and come boldly towards the throne of grace expecting to receive what we ask of the…

Everyone wants to have a purpose in life. Christians find their purpose in glorifying their Creator. This is accomplished by being a light to the fallen, sinful world; showing them the glory seen through the death and resurrection of our Lord (Matthew 27-28, Matthew 5:13-16). Glorifying God can be accomplished through a variety of actions such as worshipping, obedience, and prayer but the main purpose is found in Matthew 28: 18-20 in the passage known as the Great Commission. If we are not making disciples then we are glorifying God for others to see. Glorifying God goes beyond the intimate moments of prayer or worship but is an outward expression, sanctification, which allows the whole world to see something is different. “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven,” (Matthew…
But free will gets in the way and choices are made that are not in his plan, so my purpose was not clear to me. I didn't have a goal. Amazingly, God gives us a second chance (or 2 or 20) and in our obedience He shows us what is best for us, what He wants for us. It was in this season of my life, in obedience to Him, that He revealed His purpose to me. He gave me a goal. I was at my women's bible sturdy and talking about God's plans for each of us, when my friend said that she was being called to go back to school and become a Christian Counselor for teens. She explained how her involvement in the lives of the teens at our church had greatly impacted her and the decision to go back to college and "make it official". Many months before this moment, I had been praying that He would reveal His plan for me. I had been looking for a lightning bolt, but He whispered to me, "this is what I have for you." I'm not involved with the teens as my friend is, I knew that wasn't specifically for me. But a Christian counselor, Yes, this was it! I had spent the last few months walking through a tough time with my sister, sharing tears, ideas and counsel. I had become a leader in the women's ministry at my church and grown…
Second, God is at work answering everyone’s prayer. The Bible says in Isaiah 65, verse 24, "It will also come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear." God wants to hear your prayers. He is eager to hear our thoughts and request. He has a desire to have a relationship with His children. The Bible says in James 1, verse 17 that, “Every good thing bestowed and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation, or shifting shadow.” God loves us enough to hear our prayers and to help us when we need Him most. The apostle Paul reminds us in…

For example, a criminal has stolen a man’s fortune successfully; he has achieved his goal. It’s a very bad achievement, but he was successful. However, a Christian such as myself, looks to accomplish those goals which are in the will of God. I know it is His will that I excel as an outstanding student in high school and college; live each day as a good example to other young people; and serve Him by using the multiple gifts He has given me. I will one day complete God’s will and reach all of the goals that I have set for myself, then I will have reached complete achievement.…
