Article one of this Adult Learning Theory is titled “Serving the Adult Learners in Higher Education-Principles of Effectiveness” from the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning National Headquarters, (CAEL). This generalized theory give an indebt look at how the adult learner’s techniques of learning differ from that of the average younger student. This system conducted a study from six of the nation’s highly adult learning universities and colleges to categorize various educational techniques to create learning abilities for the working adult. Wetzel, the adult learning has to compete with the younger generation of learners in the working field. In today’s working field, employers require that an employee be updated with their job requirements and skills. Because of the demand for highly competitive and demand for economic growth, there is a need to be educated. An adult learner has to maintain their job requirements, technology, knowledge and skills with today’s workforce. Also to achieve a higher income with certain job description, education is a must. Retirement, income and age are areas to consider for the adult learner in the age bracket of 30 to 55 years old due to inflation of the future. A person making an average yearly salary has to worry if it will compensate them when in retirement. The average adult feels secure with a continued education. The “Eight principles of Effectiveness for Serving Adult Learners” and David R. Wetzel’s article “A Focus on Lifelong Learning for Career Success” follows similar guidelines. Knowledge, education and job skills must be upgraded on a regular basis. Jobs that pay a higher income require college degrees. The adult learner faces challenges of the technology that is required to stay current and knowledgeable with one’s career goals. Diversity plays an important role as well. Each day it seems that with today’s professional job, there is new information and advances in technology to learn. These skills will not in most cases be shown to an individual. Employees have to take the initiative to do their own research to advance in their field. Thus creating great work performances evaluations, job promotions and higher income. These characteristics are important for adult learning for career
