Comparing and Contrasting Servant Leadership to Transactional Leadership Organizational Behavior and Management defines Transactional Leadership as being, “Helps the follower identify what must be done to accomplish the desired results (e.g., better-quality output, more sales or services, reduced cost of production) and ensures that employees have the resources needed to complete the job, (Ivancevich, Konopaske, Matteson, p. 453).” Business dictionary defines transactional leader as a, “style of leadership that is based on the setting of clear objectives and goals for the followers as well as the use of either punishments or rewards to encourage compliance with these goals”. Transactional leadership have many characteristics that include creating and making goals clear, individualizing targets for each team and their members, no trust in their followers, consistently watching their followers’ performance, and they use disciplinary actions when needed. The transactional leader makes it known to his followers exactly what he wants and what is expected. The individuals’ performance goals and expectations is linked to their rewards. In the journal article Role of Transformational and Transactional Leadership on Job satisfaction and Career Satisfaction states that, “Effective leadership always plays an important role in the growth and better performance of the organization. Transactional leadership is found significantly related to job success while transformational leadership and job success are found highly related with career satisfaction. The transformational leader is expected to fill goals with their skills as leaders. First, the leaders have a responsibility to the followers to help build individual’s and the organization. Building a business and followers simply means to help them see their vision bigger in their hearts and minds and display their work behavior through these visions along with their beliefs, work ethics, values, and principles. Transformational leaders bring their followers from their lowest potential of work skills to their highest level possible, serving as their role models. Transformational leadership have several components that uplifts the role of leadership to success.
