My name is Lydia. My parents gave me this name and hoped that I could be friendly and always in good manners. I was born in a sweet and great family. English is like my mother language, mainly because my parents do export business and it requires them to use English frequently. I am very close to my parents and my older sisters. I share my concern with them and do girl talks very often just like best friends do. Family to me is a safe harbor and place where I grow and learn. I grew up as an independent and mature kid; I seldom do compromise when it comes to my ideal targets. My mother considers it is important to have a skill of my own so I learned how to use abacus while attending Chan-an elementary school. Using abacus enhanced my sensitivity of numbers and dramatically changed my performance on the major subjects in school and got rewarded all the time. I learned discipline and to be reasonable with others during three years of Junior High school. Teachers taught me to do the right thing at the right time. They are not only teachers but also very important people of my life. Furthermore, I get along well with my classmates and we are just like siblings of a huge family. I came a long way to find that English and business are what I am really interested in. Therefore, I attended National Taipei College of Business (later National Taipei University of Business) and majored in International Business. I tried very hard to live up to my own expectations and become a hard working student. Please allow me to share this experience with you. Our department has a very complete course on training students’ foreign languages’ speaking, reading, listening and writing skills. This way, we could become best of the best among those who also major in business. Our department also offers great deal of

I prefer to be true to myself, even at the endangerment of finding the ridicule of others, rather than to be false, and finding my own detestation. Why should I worry about what others think of me? I don’t give a shit about how others perceive my personality because to begin with, I know myself and I also know my own demons — in which, at the outset, are just conventional behaviors of an ordinary human being.…

1 In the essay "A Brother's Murder," Brent Staples writes about his younger brother, Blake, who took a very different path in life than Staples did. 2 The essay starts with a phone call in which Staples learns that Blake has been murdered, shot six times by a former friend (517). The essay goes on to tell about the conditions in which Blake grew up. The neighborhood in which the brothers lived was violent, and young men grew into dangerous adults. Staples recalls a conversation he overheard there between two Vietnam veterans, in which one of them said how much he preferred to fight with young men from the inner city, who wear "their manhood on their sleeves." They weren't afraid to fight, believing that violence proved they were real men (518).…

The Harry Potter obsession is fueled by the charismatic characters and the ultimate fantasy that is colorfully painted throughout the novel. Children become hypnotized by the magic spells, the amazing conjuring of potions, the exciting adventures and creatures that could only be found in the deep realms of your mind. This is frightening to some, especially the crazy bible-thumping Christians, Radical Muslims, and crazy parents who are completely blind to the development in today’s youth. These are just a few examples of groups who disagree with this book. But why? Exactly what I said above, They believe that these books provide some sort of brainwashing method embedded deep within the pages of this book. They are afraid that children will convert to some of these “Witch-Craft” techniques and “rituals” which are commonly mentioned throughout the novels. Understandably, parents dislike the violence and death that is plagued though out the novel, but that adds a key element to the book, suspense and excitement.…

On July 18, 2013, I decided to continue my education in college. First of all I imagine that college would be a very enjoyable experience. Start of the orientation time, I tried to greet anyone who might be a good friends of mine later. This is very important because I live alone with no families in Bandung. The next day, the teaching-learning process begins. Teaching-learning process in college is much more different than Senior High School. In college, we had to develop the lessons ourselves, because most lectures do not explain in details. If we don’t do that,,we will be confused and misunderstood the lessons. We also have to be able to set the time between tasks and participated in the organization. This hectic schedule sometimes makes a mess sleep schedule. But behind the challenges of college life I faced, I'm sure that I can prepare my future career and become a successful man through out college. Attending college allows students to learn new information, make lifetime friens, and prepare for a career.…
