“My family and I were going into hiding in a Secret Annex that I started building in 1938, from the “S.S” men of Berlin.” “For which it was the time that Hitler was coming into power and rounding up my kind to send them to work in concentration camps, or death.”
“However, when My family and I moved into the Secret Annex, they were quite astonished and complained at how little space there was, along with the fact that they would also have other people in there with them including life long friends, coworkers, and neighbors that needed a safe place to stay during Hitler’s democracy.” The Frank family and others lived there in hardship for approximately 2 years with nearly not enough food to go around, and so much complaining about wanting to go outside the Annex.

Frank’s family and his intimates were hiding in, and captured them all to take them to the concentration camp where they would have their fate decided. “
The next night,
“I remember being in the concentration camp’s nursing room for some medical reason, I don’t recall what it was but...anyway, there was an all call for section “B” and “C” of the concentration camp, to be escorted onto a truck to go who knew where at the time.” “Some thought that they were being set free….but it just so happened to be that my family and friends were in those sections and getting onto the truck, and that was the last time that I ever saw

On the first day, within the first twenty minutes, two men tried to pass off as Russians who were allowed out of the camp to cut down trees while others hid in the trucks full of trees. None of them escaped, but it showed how witty, adventurous and desperate those men were. Another man, Capt. Hilts, one of three Americans at the camp, stepped across the warning wire where we had tossed his baseball to check out a blind spot between the guard towers. His feet were shot at and then he was sent to the cooler, an isolation cell, along with Ives ‘The Mole’, one of the men who attempted escape on…

“News of the German defeats filled the Jewish prisoners with both hope and trepidation. Many feared that the SS would soon liquidate the camp and its remaining prisoners so that all evidence of their heinous crimes would be destroyed.”9 Those who were in the camp wanted a way to escape and tell someone of the war crimes that the German’s were committing. The revolt was staged by the “Organizing Committee,” which consisted of Dr. Julian Chorazycki, “camp elder” Marceli Galewski, former Czech army officer Zelo Bloch, Zev Kurland, and Jankiel Wiernik, a carpenter who worked in the extermination area.”10 Samuel was unaware that the staging of a revolt was about to occur. How Samuel found out was in a truly remarkable way. While he was stationed with an Austrian guard, and elderly man walks into the room he is in, already stripped down and about to be executed, pleaded out that there is a conspiracy being planned to escape, but the Austrian guard couldn’t understand him and proceeded to shoot the man in the head. Leading up the revolt, the committee was faced with a major setback. Chorazycki, who was charged with the task of acquiring arms from outside was caught by the deputy commandant and would eventually commit suicide to prevent any other information from escaping. After hearing news of a revolt in the Warsaw Ghetto from prisoners coming off the trains, their morale’s and…

This extract is part of Tadeusz Borowski’s short story ‘This Way for the Gas, Ladies and Gentlemen’, which was first published in 1959 (?). It is often used to serve as an indication of Borowski’s argument that the difference between victim and perpetrator was often blurred in the concentration camps, as a victim often had to act as a perpetrator, by valuing his life before anyone elses, in order to secure their survival. In this segment of text, which is towards the end of the short story, Borowski describes the ending of a successful transport cleansing. The transport was from Sosnowiec-Bedzin and the Canada men (the men responsible for sorting and clearing the transports brining new prisoners) are, in the extract, laden with food and clothing.…

Have you ever played hide-and-seek for over two years? These people were in hiding because of their religion, which was Jewish. The Nazis were the group of people led by the Adolf Hitler, who was leader of the Nazis and was taking the Jews to the dreaded concentration and extermination camps. These camps were brutal for the people. The Franks, Van Daans, and Mr.Dussel spent over two years hiding in the Secret Annex. How did these people pass such a horrible time in history? How smooth, or in their case, how difficult, was it to communicate with the world outside of the Secret Annex? Where was the Secret Annex located in which these people spent the remainders of their life?…

The time during the Holocaust brought the Frank family much difficulties. They had to be fearful about everything. They were always scared of being caught by the Gestapo. They had to be careful about what they were doing and how loud they were talking. They were always scared of what would happen if someone knew where they were living. While they were living in the Annex they couldn’t do much as I had mentioned. They didn’t have normal dinners or normal clothes like other normal families had. In the secret annex there was a tight schedule. The Annex was located in an empty section of the builing that Mr. Frank worked in.…

During the Holocaust in World War II, a number of concentration camps and extermination camps were constructed. Auschwitz II Birkenau, was the main execution camp where there were three gas-chambers, each with their own crematorium, and could kill up to 6 000 Jews a day. The truck arriving with all the prisoners came to a stop when it had reached its destination, where a doctor sorted the prisoners in two separate lanes, splitting loved ones, women, children, the elderly and those claimed to be weak and unfit, from the younger and healthier men. "Leave Hitler to me, sonny - you ought to be out of London,” was a very prevalent slogan which echoed across Britain back in World War II referencing to Operation Pied Piper, an evacuation of several million children, that took place early September of 1939 through March of 1946 (Prest; Zimmerman). Although the majority of evacuees had rather pleasant experiences and loving homes, others were not as fortunate. Guardians took advantage of them and callously maltreated some, while for others the psychological and emotional strain of being displaced and completely isolated from everything and everyone they knew, provoked feelings of being abandoned and unloved, which their young minds and fragile hearts found difficult to comprehend.…
