According to my textbook the three essential properties of every material is the kind of atoms of which it is made. The way those atoms are arranged. The way the atoms are bonded to each other. Atoms is all matter is composed of atoms. Atoms are the minimum particle of an element that retains its identity in a chemical reaction. Atom comes from the Greek word atomos meaning inseparable. (Trefil, 2010) According to my reading silicon, based semiconductors revolutionized computing. Because silicone semi conductors are able to move freely through the solid component it is more efficient than copper based conductors. Silicone based conductors form holes which creates and fills a space continually. Meaning electrons jump from one atom to another. Also silicone is changed through a process called doping through adding either phosphorus or aluminum the desired effect is achieved. When phosphorus is added to silicon it become n-type (Negative-semiconductor). When aluminum is added to silicone it becomes p-type (semiconductors). Both are essential for parts functions efficient electrical devices (microchips, which are use, in. computers (Nano technology). Microchips are a positive and negative type semiconductors. Microchips perform a specific function. A microchip is individual diodes and transistors still plays the essential function in contemporary electronics, however these devices have been mainly replaced by much more complex arrays of P- and N- kind semi conductors, known as microchips. Microchips may incorporate hundreds or thousands of transistors in one integrated circuit, specially intended to do a specific role. They are associated to integrated circuits here is why. Integrated circuits (microchips) are the main component in devices such as calculators, microwave and other devices. An integrated circuit microprocessor lies at

When transistors were first developed they were about 0.5 cm3 in volume It was found that transistors could also be miniaturized by using silicon doped with arsenic/gallium. Several million transistors could now be placed on area of 1cm3. This had enormous consequences for the design and development of computers, CD players, internet, mobile phones, cable TV, robots, military technology and medical diagnosis & treatment.…

Also known as a “computer on a chip” the microprocessor was created in 1970 by Intel. It was very less powerful than a mainframe, but helped with the idea that Intel had for “standalone” computing. Which an individual user could have a computer using the chip on his or her desk and could be able to program it to whatever he or she wanted it to do.…

I don’t feel that the position of celestial objects at the moment of our birth have an effect on our characters, .lives or destinies. Life is what you make it. We control our own destinies. If I do not like something it is my responsibility to change it. Many people believe that because you are born during a certain time of the year that you are programmed to act like the zodiac sign that falls under your birth month and birth date. You have a belief that the astrological signs have an important part of your life. I believe that astrological signs are life superstitions. Astrology readings are in the newspaper, on the internet, on menus at oriental restaurants. I wonder if astrology horoscopes were not all over the place how likely would it be that half of America would continue to believe.…

There are three essential properties of every material that scientists use as a premise for most every study. The first is the kind of atoms that the material is made up of. You have your neutral elements and your compound elements. The neutral elements have the same amount of protons and electrons, which basically cancel each other out leaving them neutral. The compound element deals with combining more than one element. The second is the way those atoms are arranged. A good example of this is by comparing atoms of liquid and atoms of solids. For instance the atoms of liquids move around freer than atoms of solids which are packed together. The third is the way the atoms are bonded together. There are for key properties to understand when studying a material. The strength of the material, which is its ability to withstand forces being applied to it without breaking, is the first. The second is the materials elasticity, which is its ability to flex while returning to its original form. The third is the materials plasticity, which is its ability to change its shape permanently. The forth is the materials ductility, which is the materials ability to be deformed.…

Computer Hardware originated from the 1960’s is marked by the conversion from vacuum tube to solid state devices such as the transistor and later the integrated circuit. By 1959 discrete transistors were considered sufficiently reliable and economical that they made further vacuum tube computers uncompetitive. Computer main memory slowly moved away from magnetic core memory devices to solid-state static and dynamic semiconductor memory, which greatly reduced the cost, size and power consumption of computer devices. Eventually the cost of integrated circuit devices became low enough that home computers and personal computers became widespread. In the third generation the mass increase in the use of computers accelerated with computers. These generally relied on Jack Kilby’s invention of the microchip, starting around 1965. However, the IBM Systems used hybrid circuits, which were solid state devices interconnected on a substrate with separate wires. The first integrated circuit was produced in September 1958 but computers using them didn’t begin to appear until 1963. Some of the early uses were in embedded systems, notably used by NASA for the Apollo Guidance Computer and others. While large mainframe computers such as the System increased storage and processing abilities, the integrated circuit also allowed development of much smaller computers. The minicomputer was a significant innovation in the 1960s and 1970s. It brought computing power to more people, not only through more convenient physical size but also…

    Building a Computer

With increasing popularity of computer games, and multimedia home PC users often need an unexpensive computer system upgrade. By building a custom computer one is able to combine componenets, and operating system to provide maximal gaming performance. Computers are often called number manipulators, because of their ability to run millions of mathematical operations per second (White 43). Computers use binary system of numbers, which allows them to operate system of microscopic switches called transistors found inside of computer chips. Binary system is defined as counting system that uses two digits one and zero (Gookin 49). A transistor is a basic building block of microchips; transistors are combined in formations called logic gates (White 39). "Transistor can only create binary information: one if current passes through or zero if current does not, to work with transistors"(White 39). Computer software uses Boolean logic, which is based on selecting true or false values used in computer programming (White 39). All personal computers have BIOS, which is an acronym for Basic Input Output System. The BIOS runs every time the computer is started, and it basically tells the computer how to act (White 19). The BIOS is a part of the boot up process, or a complex set of operations checking hardware that components are working properly. Besides BIOS and several other operations there is power–on self-test - POST being ran. POST test runs at the start up, and if it finds an error, it sends a warning message (White 5). Central processing unit – CPU is the most important part of the personal computer, all other components work as a bridge to CPU (White 59). The speed of the processor is usually defined by using units called megahertz (MHz, also million frequency waves per second). CPUs are generally divided into two categories- CISC and RISC. CISC – complex instruction set computing, uses many small instructions to carry out a single operations. CISC is a standard in today…

Microprocessors have shaped how computing developed through the years. The microprocessor originated back in 1971 with the Intel 4004. It was a 4 bit BCD (Binary-Coded Decimal) oriented microprocessor. It helped advance the computer industry in ways such as giving other manufacturers a baseline to work off of and some competition in the field of microprocessors. The 4004 really was the start of microprocessing in the computer industry. This card only ran at 740 kHz which really shows the advancements that have been made up until today’s processors with 4 GHz and higher clock speeds.…
