School Board Meeting Research Paper
School Board Meeting

On the night of November 8, 2010 the Cy-Fairs Board of Education members led by Dr.John Olgletree started out with the accomplishments of their schools athletics, art, dance, and literacy accomplishment thus far. From there they took a vote on whose name should represent one of the new schools that was in the process of being built in the Cy- Fair district. The former teacher Cheryl Salyards was in the running for her name to be on the school. Of the seven board members four of them voted for Cheryl Salyards. A teacher who had taught hearing impaired student for the past thirty-two years. I really thought that was the most interesting part of the meeting because I never knew how the school’s names were selected.

One of the teachers took the podium addressing the school board with some concerns about her school having very few teachers. She told the board that the shortage of teachers meant that class sizes were large and the work load was heavy. She made the comment “if I look tired it’s because I am.” I was impressed by that statement because that teacher didn’t have to go around campus complaining instead, she went to the school board to let them know. Mary Jadlowski Assistant Superintendent discussed an AP program that allows high school students that qualify to start taking college courses before they graduate. Those were the most interesting things about the meeting in my opinion. Towards the end of the meeting President Dr. Olgletree discussed how they were going to spend their funds within the district and surrounding areas. I wasn’t really interested in that because I didn’t understand some of the things he was talking about. What was surprising is that after the teacher had been chosen to have her name on the new school almost everyone who was in the meeting had left excluding the Board of Education members. It seemed to me the audience cared about nothing else that was said because

Some Sumer activities that I like to do or achieve for the school break are having fun with my friends and family and play. On really hot days we go down to the lake and play in the water or go fishing. I also like to play with my dog and go for walks with her if I'm not dragging her all the way there and back. Sometimes I do work with my dad most of the times it involves a lot of elbow grease. I love to do fun activities with my mom that does relate a little work, at the end she gets us a treat. On the days I'm not doing anything I go out with friends or they come to my house, and if I'm good we go to get air, other wise, we just watch movies and relax. On other days when we are in the garden I like to swim, maybe even play with the sprinklers and bother my brothers.…

The council meeting began and I was immediately was struck by the many different individuals in attendance from all walks of life. While almost everyone in the building was there for a specific reason or issue, there was one tie to everyone: Money and the local economy. The Firefighters from the city of Huntsville were in attendance protesting the projected budget and their cut of that. A worker from the Mental Hospital in Huntsville gave a very logical plea to the Council about that funding of the mental institution. Many issues made…

I have always loved my county fair in Tulare, CA. I love seeing all the different animals and aspects of agricultural together in one place. My most positive thought of my fair is educating outsiders about my animals. This was my first time walking thru the Fresno fair so it was a little different not being involved in the dairy barn. I was able to view the fair as an outsider in some way. This let me realize some major aspects and some things I have never realized about the fair.…

Blue’s class she reminded them of the Bill Nye video that they had watch, and the kids remember lots of things from the video. This was a great way to get the students engaged and to help with a visual representation. She also gave each of them a chance to explain their reason and definitions with the whole class. She kept the students engaged by having them all take turns reading and highlight as they went along. Her role was to present questions for the students, who were to think about the answer and then share with one another. It was a good idea to spilt the students in to partners to discuss. In Mr. G’s he explained that the students had only been giving him work that was about fifty percent effort. He did allow for students to take out there phone and take pictures of the board to make sure they had the information. They also were very good at reading along with him and answering his questions out of the book. I think it was a good idea to get the students more engaged in the learning process, by working in smaller groups together. These are both great examples of their responsibility as a teacher to create good creative and instructive…

The main topic that I wanted to hear about the most was about having chickens in town. They were going to have a resolution but since one of the council members were questioning it they decided to do a public hearing before they make the resolution. When I was at the meeting someone said we don’t live in New York City we live in Elma, IA and we should be able to have chickens in…

P.O, senators and judge, I stand as Senator Ortega to keep start times the same for the sake of everyone . School start times will cause a burden in many situations. Moving school start times later will result in increased costs to school systems and unacceptable disruption to many families. Advocates — and editorial boards — may choose to minimize or ignore these impacts, but local school boards cannot. School boards are responsible for balancing competing priorities in the face of limited resources, and should consider return on investment before embarking on such changes. The AAP’s Adolescent Sleep Working Group reviewed studies involving inadequate sleep in teens. Researchers analyzed the harmful effects sleep deprivation—anything less…

Tons of millions of young adults every day throughout America are not able to get into college. Young adults nowadays have given up on their chances to go to college, because they are too poor to afford not only to be able to attend college but because of the supplies people need. An average college textbook cost $200 which for all your classes would equal up to $1,200 per year (Chenes, Elizabeth Des). Also, colleges offer scholarships to women because of their gender but not to men. Public college schooling should be paid by the government or for “free” because American Students on the honor roll work hard, history morals stated free education, and more kids will try harder in their high school experience (Chenes, Elizabeth Des).…

Also, I found it very surprising some of the school didn’t have any supplies for learning. Such as computers, crayons, paper, and books. It made me realize how fortunate we are to have all the materials we do here. On average, teachers spend $500-1500 dollars a year on their own classroom and materials, which I find crazy seeing as that shouldn’t be their responsibility. All students deserve to have equal learning opportunities as kids at any other school. It isn’t fair some kids have a computer in every classroom, when other students have never even touched one.…
