Public Meeting Paper
The public meeting I went to was at the City Hall chambers building located in downtown El Paso at two civic center plaza drive. It was a regular City Hall Council meeting where voting sessions were conducted. City Council members and mayors of El Paso do these meetings to resolve problems and improve their city through funding, spreading awareness, and implementing laws. City Hall Council meetings are from Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. City Hall Council meetings allow and encourage public attendance and participation. The City Hall Council meeting I went to was Tuesday March 15th. It was three hours long, but I attended the first hour of the meeting from 8:30am to 9:30 am. At the beginning of the meeting there was a Spanish interpreter provided for Spanish speaking El Pasoans. There was also a sign language interpreter provided for people with special needs. Then there was a prayer thanking God’s grace for safety and prosperity and mentioning the devastating natural disaster in Japan, and asking God to have mercy on Japan and protect the U.S. from similar disasters. After that people were asked to stand in respect for the Pledge of Allegiance which was read by City Council members. Mayor Ann Morgan Lilly announced Mayor’s proclamations. First guest was Miss Shanaya Fastje Day who is an 11 year old girl. She spoke to kids about bullying and its impact and effect on kids. She discussed ways to prevent or at least reduce the cases of bullying. She also mentioned the ways on how kids should deal with bullying and who to reach to incase of such incidents. Mayors thanked her efforts especially Mayor Beto O’Rouke. Her father spoke about his daughter’s efforts and asked the city of El Paso to assist and help her to make her cause and efforts influential and effective. Mayor Pro Tempore Emma Acosta thanked her and asked to applause her. The second mayor proclamation was Franklin Mountain Poppies Preservation Day. Jody spoke about it and asked people to attend

The meeting started at 7:00 pm. The meeting did not start with the pledge, Sunshine Law, or a prayer. Instead, it started when Mayor Sandham walked in and sat down at the head of the table. This meeting was called the open space meeting, where the Montville Township Committee, Open Space Committee, and volunteers attended. This meeting was addressing the issues of JIF, an insurance company, requiring a waiver to use tools while blazing hiking trails in Pyramid and Turkey Mountain.…

The Okaloosa County Commissioners meeting held on 12/2/2014 was conducted in a formal manner, and they used the Robert Rules of Order throughout the meeting. My immediate reaction to this meeting was that it seemed closed to the public and intimidating. I was surprised that the beginning started with a prayer. Items on the agenda moved quickly, and at the end each section they open the meeting to the public for comments.…

On Sunday, March 6th, I went to an AA meeting in the Heights Vietnam Veterans Memorial Building between Manhattan and Summit Avenues in NJ, Jersey City. The meeting started around 10:30 AM and ended around 11:30 AM. Before the meeting, lots of coffee, tea and donuts were served to the people. There were about 50 people that showed up to the meeting, 35 of them were males and the other 15 were females. Most of them were either old or middle aged. The meeting consisted of a podium which had about five rows of metal folding chairs facing it. On the wall behind the podium to the left of it, was a list of the twelve steps and to the right of it, was a list of the twelve traditions. The meeting began with someone reciting the twelve steps and then with the introduction of new members. After that someone else comes up to the podium, but this time with a calendar in his hands and he goes over the upcoming events. The meeting ended with everyone quietly listening to Billy’s and George’s life stories.…

On October 8, 1976 there was a ruling on the Tarasoff v. Regents of the University Of California case. In which the supreme court of California held that mental health professionals have the right and is their duty to protect individuals who are threatened or being threatened by a patient by bodily harm. In 1974 the original decision stated that the threatened individual must be warned. The professional may discharge the duty in a number of ways, including notifying police, warning the victim, and taking other reasonable steps to protect the threatened individual.…

I attended an A.A. meeting on April 5, 2010. Before the meeting I seemed very anxious. This was not my first meeting I have been to meetings before but they all seem to make me nervous. When I arrived the nervousness had eased off because everyone had made me feel welcomed. I was made to feel like a part of their family from the beginning to the end of the meeting. I seemed to have realized I missed going to these meetings and I miss the fellowship but it has not interfered with me staying sober.…

Just like the AA meeting, I felt very uncomfortable with attending an Al-Anon meeting. I have been fortunate enough where no one close to me has ever been addicted to alcohol. I wasn’t sure how well I would be able to relate to the members of this meeting. I was very nervous walking in the meeting and I felt out of place. One thing that brought me relief was the smiling faces and happy conversation I encountered as I entered the room. These people looked like they were trying to make the best out of the situation that their loved ones put them in.…

    City Council Meeting

For my project I visited the Los Alamitos City council. The beginning of the meeting started with a call of order then proceeded to the roll call of the board members. After these steps had taken place the Pledge of Allegiance was said and the meeting began. As each speaker had their turn to speaker about their topic I noticed how democratic it was after a person had given their speech each of the board members voted on the issue and the matter was either passed or declines, it was very similar to direct democracy. Also each speaker was given five minutes which is plenty of time to get your ideas across to the board, and it’s just a long enough time so people don’t get sidetracked or bored. But the only problem that I can see with the five minute rule is if you have too many people speaking at a meeting, not everyone will have their chance to speak. While they’re I noticed that the size of the city council building was a little smaller than expected, because they were unable to sit all the people who attended causing a majority of people to stand in the back during the course of the meeting. There were many issues brought up during the meeting, one of the first issues dealt with the location of Verizon services through Los Alamitos, and the installing and construction that would happen if the city were to install Verizon services. Another important issue that was brought up was the increasing rise in water prices in los Alamitos, which any of the citizens at the meeting talked about and many proposals to the board. An finally one of the Last issues had to deal with trees uprooting sidewalks and roads throughout Los Alamitos that where cased by trees. Out of these three main topics the one that most surprised me was the cracked sidewalks and roads from trees. This most interested me because of the stimulus money that was put into fixing roads in the us has not helped out damaged and pot hole filled roads and sidewalks. These trees should be…

Many students who are undertaking, or have completed a Beauty Therapy qualification, do so on the assumption that the skills and qualifications they gain will be enough to secure them a job in the industry. The Babtac website states that only 60% of graduates find employment within the first 6 months of completing their training and only 45% are still in employed in the industry after two years. Sam Shepard, Neil Simon, Arthur Miller and Tennessee Williams are all famous playwrights of the twentieth century. There are many different types of plays, all of which are written as entertainment for the public. This quote says exactly that “… persons who are apt to be fond of such entertainment…” (Seilhamer, 2). These men primarily wrote Broadway plays. Some went as far as screenplay writers, directors and actors. Most of these playwrights used their life experiences to influence their plays.…
