Two types of literature are compared by similarities and differences, famous speech by Martin Luther King Jr, “ I Have a Dream “, and a solution to a problem named “ A Modest Proposal “. Some background on both of the works of literature are, “ I Have a Dream “ is about a man who stands up to the fact of racism all over his country (U.S.A) and the purpose of his speech is so every can hear that they all will be freed from racism. “A Modest Proposal “is slightly different in the way that it is about a problem in his country (Ireland) dealing with the poor people and how his idea could be the solution. There are three similarities between, “I Have a Dream “and “A Modest Proposal “.Differences three as well. The following essay will go into in depth detail on how these two books are alike and how they are not.
Both types of literature are similar in many ways; one reason is that they both are trying to change/fix a problem that they have in their country. In “ I Have a Dream “ they talk about how the Negros are still not free, “the Negro still is not free; one hundred years later…the Negro is still languished in the corners of America society and finds himself in exile in his own land.” In this quote he states the problem and talking about the long lasting problem that America has with the freedom issue of Negros. In this quote Martin mentions the solution to the problem,”… [I ] promise that all men, yes, black men as well as white men, will be guaranteed the unalienable rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” In this quote Martin is talking about how black and white men will be equal and live in country with the same rights. In a “A Modest Proposal “Dr. Jonathan states that there is a growing problem with the poor,”… [I] calculate one million and a half…who are unable to maintain their children.” Dr. Jonathan is talking about how many parents are unable to talk care of their children because they are to poor. Jonathan has a solution...
