If you want to lose weight, there are many diet plans and programs available with a variety of records of success. Two of the most popular weight loss programs in the US are Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem. The food pyramid is at the core of the Nutrisystem program. The online weight management system centers on the consumption of “good” carbohydrates versus “bad” carbohydrates. On the other hand, Weight Watchers restricts no food. This program assigns points to different foods and the higher the calories in a particular food item, the more points. Your main goal is to stay below a certain number of points per week. A ‘fad diet’ is a diet that promises dramatic weight loss, which results in a short period of time. These diets usually remove all food groups and due to this do not actually provide the essential nutrients that we need for our everyday lives. These diets do not result in long-term weight loss and are a very unhealthy way of loosing weight. Fad diets are very intriguing because they all promise a quick fix. Nutritionists are concerned about fad diets because they can cause symptoms like dehydration, weakness, fatigue, nausea, headaches, constipation and inadequate nutrients that our bodies need.…

    Metabolic Diet Essay

The great thing about approaching dieting this way is not necessarily having to eat less. Of course, you will still have to eat the right kind of foods, so do watch what you eat. One thing about traditional dieting is how the whole body goes into survival mode to preserve whatever calories and fat it has. This is especially true if you skip one or two meals. A much more effective strategy is to eat several smaller meals in a day, rather than the traditional breakfast, lunch and dinner. This ensures the stomach stays satisfied throughout the day. There are a number of metabolic diet recipes you can try that you can refer to when you start cooking meals that are appropriate for dieting. Another mistake that some dieters make is skipping breakfast. Unfortunately those who do, tend to overeat later in the day and will likely suffer from sluggishness. By eating breakfast, this allows you to effectively jump-start your metabolism after having fasted overnight. This helps the body burn more calories throughout the day and avoid the sluggishness that is typically experienced by most dieters. Coffee is another key component that most adults already take advantage of. Coffee has long been known to boost the nervous system and keep it more alert and ready to burn more energy and calories.…

    Sensa Diet

The fad diet I chose was the Sensa Diet. It consists of sprinkling either a sweet or salty powder onto your food before you eat it with the intention of reducing the persons appetite, or making them feel fuller. The Sensa website states that by intensifying the smell, the SENSA® Tastants will make you feel full and more satisfied. 1. The sprinkles are sodium-free, sugar-free, calorie-free and gluten-free. Sensa does contain lactose, maltodextrin and carmine which are ingredients that may cause allergic reactions to some people.[1] With this diet, I found a lot of descriptions stating that you would not have to change the way you ate or exercised and that by just using sensa, weight would come off. [2] In a clinical study of Sensa, 1,436 participants lost an average of 30.5 pounds over a six-month period without changing their usual diet and exercise routines. [3] Three good components of a good exercise program are nutrition, exercise and modification of behavior. In this diet, theres no mention about changing the foods you eat or adding an exercise plan. Fad diets shouldn't just be about losing weight, they should also make sure that people are getting the proper nutrients they need and including exercise as part of their routine because of all the added benefits it can bring also. The sensa website states that all the ingredients are generally regarded as safe by the FDA and that there are no stated side effects.[1] I looked through reviews of the Sensa diet on Amazon and found possible side effects mentioned which include increased blood pressure, diarrhea and constipation. [4] Overall, this is not a good diet to follow because it does not have much proof that it works, it is not nutritionally better because it does not encourage better eating habits or exercise and most of the reviews stated that the sensa diet did not work for them.…

The diet I found the most interesting is The Beverly Hills Diet. The BH Diet focuses on conscious combining, a food combining philosophy that states that maintaining or losing weight is controlled by the times you eat and your food combinations. Judy Mazel created The BH Diet, an update to her 1980s plan. She suggests that when some foods are eaten together it leads to poor digestion and in turn obesity.…

The bad part of this diet program is that just like other fad diets, this one too is not without its share of side effects. Some side effects you may suffer from as a result of using this high-fat-and-low-carb diet are abnormal behavioral changes, stomach problems such as bloating and constipation, kidney troubles, as well as high cholesterol levels! On top of that, there is no scientific or clinical evidence of the effectiveness of this diet with regards to weight loss. So far, only epileptic patients, that too mainly children, have benefited from the use of this diet. If you decide to opt for this diet, you shouldn't do so without consulting a doctor or…
