Introduction

Managers and leaders have different traits, which may be found in one person. A manager is someone who coordinates and oversees the work of other people so that organizational goals can be accomplished. Managers mainly perform the following four functions: planning, organizing, leading and controlling. (book p.5) In theory, all managers should be leaders. However, this is not always the case. Leadership is the process of leading a group and influencing that group to achieve its goals. (bookp.388). Leaders possess several straits that distinguish them.
In managing a company effectively, a manager is expected to motivate employees, have good communication skills, promote a team based working environment, share values, and have a vision to lead and grow the business. An effective leader possesses all these interrelated traits. Effective leadership is the key to achieving all the other managerial tasks. In general, managers perform the four functions in order to reach goals based on principles and rules that have been previously established by the company. While on the other hand, leaders have the power to innovate, inspire, and set a vision for people to follow.
Without effective leadership, employees will lack motivation. Moreover, they will seek individual work environments instead of working in teams and communicating effectively.

Leadership Styles
There are many different styles of leadership.

Transformational Leadership:
Transformational leaders create something new from something old: make fundamental changes, they are not afraid of taking risks, they implement innovative plans and have a tendency to be proactive. Also the transformational leader wants to communicate his/her vision to his/her subordinates and thus inspiring them.
Transformational leaders have a lot of social and interpersonal skills. They are self-confident and are able to handle pressure, they are assertive and at the same

    However, one thinks that leading is the most important role in management. As a good leader one will inspire others to do their best in order to accomplish ones objectives. One must motivate employee interest, communicate well, provide adequate training and use power effectively to get them to work hard to attain ones goal. According to Schyve, M.D. (2009), poor communication, inadequate training, and lack of procedural compliance—often can be traced back to the failure of leadership to institute systemic solutions to ensure safety.
