Sandy Hook Massacre Case Study
In the case of the Sandy Hook Massacre, gunman Adam Lanza was consumed with the massive variety of weapons. He also had a huge obsession with violent video games such as Call of Duty, it has been said. The walls of his bedroom, where he had spent a majority of his time, were covered with posters of weapons and even tanks. This was claimed to have been seen by a plumber who worked in the home at one point.“The kids who play these games know all about guns. I'm not blaming the games for what happened. But they see a picture of a historical gun and say, I've used that on Call of Duty"(Henderson, The Telegraph 2012). These Call of Duty games have also been connected to other mass murders such as the Jewish school in Toulouse by Mohammed Merah

In October 1997, I heard on the radio that Luke Woodham, a sixteenyear-old, had killed two classmates and wounded seven others in a school shooting in Pearl, Mississippi. In a note, Luke declared: “I am not insane. I am angry. I killed because people like me are mistreated every day.”1 He explained that he was tired of being called a “faggot”; he was additionally enraged that his girlfriend—whom he killed in the shooting—had broken up with him. At the start of the Woodham case, I began examining school shootings. Two months after the massacre in Mississippi came a shooting in Kentucky, then one in Arkansas that same month, and then another in Arkansas three months later in March 1998. There was a shooting in Pennsylvania that April, in Tennessee…

After leaving 27 dead, including his own mother, twenty children, and six faculty members, twenty-year-old Adam Lanza shot himself in the head when he heard the sounds of policemen arriving at the elementary school. Despite no criminal activity, Lanza was described as being an introverted student in high school, yet extremely intelligent with robotics and computers. Many speculate that the shooting was triggered by possible bouts with schizophrenia or Asperger's. Others say that while the mentally ill do engage in acts of violence, the murders could have been linked to anything from social issues to the fact that Nancy Lanza, the shooter's mother, was speculated to be a doomsday prepper in response to that she kept stockpiles of guns in her basement. Whatever the cause, the shooting simultaneously disgusted and devastated children and their parents, who sympathetically were worried for the safety of future…
