Sacred Hearts Students Discover Pearl Harbor By Breana Wallace I, along with seven of my schoolmates from Sacred Hearts School grades 7-8 on December 8, 2016 got the chance to attend the "Discover Pearl Harbor" program in Oahu, Hawaii to learn about the history of the devastating Pearl Harbor attack. The Pacific Aviation Museum staff reached out to our school looking for five students to attend the program. Later, the director of the program Shauna Tonkin offered the opportunity to three more students from S.H.S. On the Pearl Harbor learning journey we got the chance to explore and learn about the devastating events that happened on December 7, 1941 along with other students from inter island and international schools. During the "Discover Pearl Harbor" trip we got the chance to tour around Ford Island where we visited the Memorials of the three sunken battleships the U.S.S Arizona, U.S.S Oklahoma, and U.S.S Utah."I felt solemn because I was standing where 2,400 people had died." said Ryan Mccrystal. Later on, we headed to the Pacific Aviation Museum, where we did some activities which involved civilian stories during the Pearl Harbor attack. Finally, we got to tour all around the huge three American football field in length U.S.S Missouri Battleship. We got to explore and observe the "Surrender" Deck
"It was a lifetime experience, that I will never forget." said Ashley Nielson. The trip has taught us amazing life lessons that we all will forever cherish.
