SWEET T'S BEAUTY Where did the concept of natural beauty products evolve?
TOYA: While shopping with my sister she went into her favorite department store for some bath and body products. I was appalled and speechless (which is almost impossible LOL) when I watched her pay over $20 for 8 oz. of sugar scrub. I thought to myself I can make this, make this BETTER, and make it at half the cos. At first, I made them for friends and family. Next, I was making products for my coworkers. Eventually, people I’ve never met started to contact me, they heard about my products through their friends. I knew I was on to something great when my ‘customer’ would bring me their empty mason jars to be refilled. Finally, Sweet T's Beauty was born. I knew from the beginning that I wanted to keep Sweet T’s natural and clean. I have

TOYA: I do. Before any products are rolled out they are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet my customer’s high standards. Where can the SPQ readers purchase Sweet T’s Beauty products? TOYA: On my website: http://sweet-ts-beauty-llc.myshopify.com/; Facebook under Sweet T’s Beauty.

What/who has been your biggest inspiration to be this strong woman entrepreneur, mother, sister and daughter? How do you balance your life?
TOYA: Great question! I would have to say my children. My husband and I have this huge blended family with 8 children total and when they see me pressing forward to work and be an entrepreneur, wife and mom, they strive to be better and I strive to be better for them. I have all those eyes watching me. I can’t give up or give in. What is it about blueberries that are healthful to the maintenance of natural hair?
TOYA: Blueberries are so amazing for the hair. They have pound for pound more Vitamin C than oranges; they smell amazing, and they make your hair strong and healthy. What is your personal hair

My mother, “Regina Hopkins,” has been a positive influence in my life. She has raised 6 kids all by herself as well as earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a City College in Gainesville, Florida. My mother has been through pretty much everything a person can go through outside of war and was still able to be there and provide for all 6 of her kids. In high school, my mother wanted to play football and couldn't because she was a girl and back-in-the-day women were not allowed to play football with the guys. However, she remained strong by raising 6 kids and independently took care of all of us on her own. My mother has several qualities that I would love to develop. The first quality she has is balance; she certainly knows how to make…

Motivation here and beyond is key to my overall success. I admittedly at times have felt mine drop to abysmal levels. What helps is considering those that have done more than I have, endured more than I have, and who continue to “soldier on” and succeed in their careers. I am not married, have no children, and no longer have my parents. The one person I think that inspires me is my twin sister, Serafina. I think about how hard she works to live on her own in New York, I think of all the struggles she has survived, and I consider her patience and love. She is my best friend, and probably the strongest person I…

As of right now, my mother’s business is to buy, fix and rent houses, and my father is a roofer as well as a subcontractor. I know that running a business and maintaining a household is hard work, so I work along with both my mom and dad. Working with my parents has shown me that success can be achieved without an appropriate education, yet I also get to see how much physical labor and time away from home this takes. Being amidst the workers I realize that I want to do better in life and want to attend college.…

When my sibling and I were growing up, my father worked a full time job, and also attended law school full time, so he was busy most of the time either sleeping, working, or studying. Looking back, he was a role model of what it means to work hard, and do what it takes to achieve your goals. A trait that I now try to emulate as a young adult trying to pursue a successful career, all of which I acquired from watching my father work as hard as he can to provide for his family. While my father was going through school and…

As a child I grew up in a poor household. Through the years my father struggled to pay the bills and we were living from month to month. I remember one time he came home and he was ecstatic because he made $100 that week. He worked around the clock to make ends meet. He would do any kind of side job whether it was buffing floors at his church or fixing friends cars. At the age of 13 my dad starting hitting the books and studying for his Real Estate exam. He bought the books and studied by himself for about a month before he scheduled his test. Once he became a Realtor he worked around the clock to get his name in the market. As a family we went from lower class to middle class because my father made the decision to do better. His focus was unparalleled, and once he made the decision to become successful, there was no stopping him.…
