SHPEP Summer Program
In this statement, I would like to express my interest in participating in the SHPEP summer program. I was fortunate enough to hear about this summer opportunity when the University of Florida college of public health & health professions visited my school. I’m interested in the program because of the opportunities that this program offers to me as an undergraduate student. With my interest in pursuing a career in either physical therapy or sports medicine, I feel this program will give me a chance to explore these careers. I also see this as a chance to gain some valuable experience that I could use as an advantage when applying to some of the most competitive graduate schools. The opportunity to be a part of the Sophomores-Serve program is one of the most exciting that I have encountered. As someone anticipating a career in medicine I am very interested in integrating science and community service. My academic experience thus far has centered on lectures where it can be hard to take what is being taught and apply it to the outside world. With this program, I believe I will be able to not only learn about something I am interested in, the food environment, but also improve my ability to practically use my knowledge to improve the surrounding world.…

I was wondering if I could come in and talk to you about the physical education requirements needed to graduate. I have my own strict personal workout routine that I do daily, and adding a sport would be both physically and mentally tiring. I understand that I could just stop my routine to save my time and energy for the sport, but I have done this routine for years and it keeps me fit and awakens my brain. The workout applies to my body, my strengths, and my weaknesses personally. I am contacting you to ask for a time that I can come in and talk to you about what the real benefits of and reasons that doing a sport are and how it differs from my personal workout. I also wanted to come in to ask you if there is any alternate possible way to…

Being an Emergency Room nurse for 7 years and working as a traveling nurse in many different parts of the country has impacted my future and decision of going back to school. My personal career goal is to become a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) with specialization in pediatric critical care area, mainly pediatric emergency medicine. I have known since a very young age that I had a gift for working with children. My colleagues always call me the “pediatric nurse”. I feel it takes a very special type of person to work with pediatrics, and this is where my heart is. I chose to become a FNP to broaden my area of expertise and to leave multiple doors open to work in different areas. I have looked into numerous FNP programs across the country, but I was particularly looking for a program that would allow me the flexibility with my changing work schedule and lifestyle. A few co-workers of mine are currently going to Walden and informed me about the school and program.…
