Ruth Brown Elementary School: Case Study
Laura Matthews, principal of Ruth Brown Elementary School, has been placed on administrative leave, according to Superintendent Charles Bush of the Palo Verde Unified School District. Officials said on Monday, they could not elaborate on what led up to the action, because it’s a personnel matter. However Bush was able to explain the board’s actions. “The short version of it is, on or before March 15 in a year, school administrators can be notified that for the following year, they can be reassigned to any position in which they hold a credential,” Bush said. “And that’s the decision the board made; to reassign Mrs. Matthews for next school year.” Nonetheless, the decision as to what position or at what school site Matthews will be assigned to is, unknown …show more content…
“Mrs. Angel is really the best choice,” Bush said. “She used to work over there and she was the TOSA: teacher of special assignments, which is like the Dean of Students, and she filled in a couple of years ago when Mrs. Matthews was out for medical reasons. So she knows most of the staff, the system and the structure, as well as the kids. It really makes sense to have her step in, short-term and help us there, and since we have an assistant principal at Twin Palms, it gives her the availability to get over there, oversee stuff and help with things.”
