Rowan Jordan
Rowan Jordan is the wildest, most random, and most talkative person I have ever met. I was first introduced to Rowan when I joined the softball team sophomore year. At first, Rowan came off as a fairly normal, albeit wild, person. As I got to know her however, I quickly came to the realization that her flaming red hair perfectly matched her crazy personality. When we both sat in the dugout during softball games sophomore year, we dedicated our time to jokingly taunting our friend Halle, who played on 3rd base. We easily bonded over this as our sometimes-childish and witty humors allowed us to get along extremely well. The most noticeable thing about Rowan is her hair. It’s bright red and automatically grabs attention. To go along with her red hair, she has lots of freckles to complete her stereotypical ginger look. …show more content…
For example, she perfectly utilizes her ridiculous accents whenever she tells jokes or stories. At one point during a class this year, she went on for about 10 minutes telling a made-up story about an original character “Old Johnny” while speaking in an old, slightly southern accent. Once she was finished she said something along the lines of, “All right, that one was a little overdone.” Although her talkative and humorous nature is so entertaining, it sometimes causes less patient people to become easily irritated. One of those people is Kara Rowan, Rowan’s cousin and my very good friend. Kara describes Rowan’s humor as “immature. She’s takes everything too far and I just want to slap her.” If anything, I believe this quote better explains Kara’s dramatic nature than Rowan’s humor. I tend to find Rowan much more amusing, and I recently made the connection that Rowan is a young, female version of Adam Sandler both in regards to her humor and her actions. Though everyone I told this to agreed with me, it caused Rowan to have an existential

Many people say that you must have plenty in common with someone in order to be their best friend. However, in the novel Finnie Walsh by Steven Galloway, this is not the case. Paul's family has a struggle with money throughout the duration of the novel, while Finnie's family is quite wealthy. After Mr.Woodward's accident, Finnie is struggling to escape the guilt; meanwhile, Paul is able to let it go. Finnie is a risk taker along with being very outgoing; but on the contrary, Paul is very timid and takes everything in stride. Michelle Alexander

Michelle Alexander depicts the grim reality for many young African American men in today’s society in her book the New Jim Crow. The harsh reality for many of them is that they will never be able to fully participate in mainstream society and receive the benefits and basic rights that are taken for granted by the rest of the nation. Her findings show that existence of the Jim Crow laws have yet to fully disappear from society like many believe they have, when it fact, the restrictions of the Jim Crow era have merely been reinvented in the form of the United States’ federal justice system. Today, the United States prison populations are overwhelmingly comprised of people of color. Since the founding of the United States, African Americans have been “denied citizenship that was deemed essential to the foundation” (Alexander 2010: 1). The name given to this denial was Jim Crow and today even with Barack Obama, a black man, as the President of the this great nation, African Americans are still not treated as equals to whites by continually recreating Jim Crow through the federal justice system. As Michelle Alexander writes, “As a criminal, you have scarcely more rights, and arguably less respect, than a black man living in Alabama at the height of Jim Crow” (2010: 2).…
