At the start of every spring the flowers in the biggest flower field in the world grew from tiny seeds into big beautiful flowers. During one spring, the flowers seemed to start out no different than any other.
The weather was gorgeous and the flowers were growing beautifully. As the flowers grew, a closer look at the field revealed something different this time. One of the flowers suddenly stopped growing.
With fall approaching, the other flowers were fully grown and ready to be blown off in the wind. Still, the tiny flower mysteriously hadn’t grown a bit.

For the first few days, the ideal weather conditions took effect. The new seeds began to grow into flowers. But still no luck for the little flower. It remained the same size.
Over the next few months, the insects of spring came out to enjoy spring time before fall returned. From butterflies to ladybugs, the creatures satisfied their needs from the flowers.
Amongst the insects were root maggots. Root maggots were little bugs that lived in the soil and ate flowers’ roots. At the end of every spring, the root maggots singled out a root to eat before the flowers blew away.
Down in the soil, all of the root maggots were hovered around one of the little flower’s roots. It was the biggest and heaviest root in the ground, though it wasn’t the healthiest looking one. With the crowd of swarming maggots racing to chomp down the at the poor flowers’ biggest root, this was sure to be the end for the flower. Within hours the root was gone and the maggots were satisfied.
Without its biggest root and autumn just around the corner, all hope was lost for the flower. There was just a matter of days before the flower died.
The next day, the flower remained

Here, also, were trailing clematis, dropping jasmine, and some rare sweet flowers called butterfly lilies, because their fragile petals resemble butterflies ’wings. But the roses they were loveliest of all. Never have I found in the green houses of the North such heart-satisfying roses as the climbing roses of my southern home. They used to hang in long festoons from our porch, filling the whole air with their fragrance, untainted by any earthy smell; and in the early morning, washed in the dew, they felt so soft, so pure, I could not help wondering if they did not resemble the asphodels of God’s…

There he sat, for what seemed like a very long time. He had watched the sun go from one side of the sky to the other several times. He had sat as the scorching heat warmed the soil around him. He had cried as the loneliness took hold, when he realised he was going to be here forever all alone. All the other seeds were lying over on the far end of the field.…

In the short story, “Paul´s Case”, the author, Willa Cather, uses flowers to symbolize Paul´s life, which she does to show the connections between all living things. In the story, Paul, a young high school boy, dreaming of a life of someone else, first works at a theatre, then drops out of school, gets a job, and in the ends stealing money from the company so he can pay for his travel to New York, Later on in the story, Cather describes how “flower gardens (were) blooming behind glass windows… (Both) violets, roses, and (again) carnations.” Flowers seem to follow Paul wherever he goes. Even, when there are no flowers around him, he asks for them in the hotel suite. Perfection and a longing for a world he was not naturally born in. In the end of the book, before Paul dies, he buys some red carnations. Before Paul jumps in front of the train, he buries the flowers in the snow. Paul´s life was like the flowers. Both the flowers in the glass windows, the one in his buttonhole, the ones at the hotel, and in the end the carnations he buries has a limit for how long they can stay alive. They have a better opportunity to live longer if they are in their right environment. When they get cut off from their roots and gets put into fancy glass windows they only have a certain amount of time that they can stay alive. The same thing happens to Paul. When Paul steals the money from the company, and leaves his roots at Cornelia Street for New York, where he, just like the flowers, only can live for a certain amount of time, because it is not his right environment. All in all the flowers symbolizes the life of Paul. They both bloom best in their right environment. The problem is; Paul does not know his right environment.…

The scent of flowers carried strong over the valley. The overwhelming perfume of hundreds, if not thousands of untouched petals, was long lost to noses that grew up with roses in their nostrils, not able to pick out the aroma of a single stem. Not helping was the deepness of the valley, with the only way out a steep climb with materials they not only didn’t have, but had no hope of ever making.…

Spring; a time where rebirth of our earth takes place all around the world. It is a time where replication of flowers begin to blossom and trees begin to start their journey of growing up all over again. It is when the Sun lays back and watches our earth transform into a new season of life, where the sounds of bee's buzzing and children playing in the newly grown grass shows the purity of this magnificent season. Although spring is a repeated time of the year we still breathe the fresh air with a smile on our face, but to Kim Addonizio, the author and narrator of the poem "Onset" springtime seems to be of terror in her eyes. "Onset" is a poem that refers to the replications of spring which slowly lead into the identical features of everyday…

Spring is the most beautiful season of the year because the sun gleams its sparkling rays of light on the vibrantly colored blooms of the flowers smiling beneath it. Every day is a joyful and sunny day for the flowers dancing and singing happily in the fresh air outside the window. I peacefully admire their exquisite colors and positive qualities from a distance, wishing that I could be outside soaking in their joyful presence from the sunshine above. All of my day dreaming is over with. The stack of assignments on my desk aren’t magically going to do themselves. For once, I would love to have a joyful presence fill the sadness that darkens the flowers in my school. We never have hardly any joy or laughter to make us happy. Our sun is slowly…

This man is the victim of a violent and tragic death. He has been beaten “he had had large, white teeth, all of them cracked or broken,” and has been hanged “It was the remains of a noose.” The little girl, until this…

In it, an old woman in a poor neighborhood plants marigolds in her front yard, only to have the neighborhood brats destroy them. The children act out of their fear and resentment of Miss Lottie: "For some perverse reason, we children hated those marigolds. They interfered with the perfect ugliness of the place . . . ." Only the narrator, "Lizabeth," fells shame afterwards. Then that night she overhears her parents talking--her father has evidently lost his job--and realizes how bleak and grim their life, which until then she had taken for granted because it was no different from the lives of everyone else in their community, really is. In an attempt to strike out at these circumstances, she runs back to Miss Lottie's house and uproots what's left of the marigolds. Only when Miss Lottie comes out of the house does Lizabeth see her as someone eliciting not fear but compassion: "The witch was no longer a witch but only a broken old woman who had dared to create beauty in the midst of ugliness and sterility." The story ends, "[Miss Lottie] never planted marigolds again. Yet there are times when the image of those passionate yellow mounds returns with a painful poignancy. For one doesn't have to be ignorant and poor to find that life is barren as the dusty roads of our town. And I too have planted marigolds."…

    3. Plants need the insects to carry the pollen to seeds. Since the neighbor sprayed insecticide because the Japanese beetles attacked their rose garden, there are no insects there to carry the pollen. Fruits won’t form unless the flowers are pollinated. Insects are considered pollinators for plants, without them the pollen would not go around. Pollination is needed to produce new seeds and create a wide variety of plants.…

Tom had always loved plants. He loved the way they would begin their lives as tiny seeds buried in their cosy little nests, and then, with all the essential ingredients a sprinkle of water, a cup of sunlight and a dash of time they would blossom into sharp Italian ballet dancers, their lively radiance beating against the cream-white window pane. Toms mother would grow these plants by the dozen, and, once a month, after harvest week, she would take all the plants away, replacing them with seemingly barren pots of soil, each containing their own hidden seed ready to grow and blossom into another magnificent dancer on the windowsill.…
