Romeo And Juliet Human Nature Essay
Life experiences can help humans grow, but at the same time, it can aid in the loss of our innocence. In the play, Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, the characters are used to illustrate the different stages of human nature, which can be seen through Juliet’s transition from childhood to adulthood. When a person becomes a parent, their ultimate goal in life is to protect and provide for their child. Juliet had the ideal childhood environment; her parents sheltered her from the negative of the world and provided her with the best in life. Yet sometimes parents’ best intentions are not suitable for their child. Juliet’s view of marriage at the beginning was naïve, “It is an [honor] that I dream not of” (1.3.71). The thought of marriage

Coming of age happens at different ages for each human but its generally known as the transition from being a child to becoming an adult. It is a time where a person reflects on their own wants and goals, as well as, discovering who they are and finding a companion. When Juliet seeks her Nurse for help, she would do anything to protect her husband,“Oh God! O nurse, how shall this be prevented?/ My husband is on Earth, my faith in heaven” (3.5.216-217). Love is something that humans seek and for Juliet, Romeo was the person she saw as her other half. Her feelings for Romeo is a natural occurrence for humans and the control that love has over humans are regulated by a person’s maturity. If her parents did not introduce Juliet to the idea of marriage, her views for Romeo might not have occurred so soon. “But to be frank and give it thee again./ And yet I wish for the thing I have./ My bounty is as boundless as the sea,/ My love as deep. The more I give to thee,/ The more I have, for both are infinite” (2.2.138-142). Juliet is head over heels in love with Romeo and her feelings for Romeo completely control her emotions. Juliet then seeks acceptance of her relationship from her loved ones but does not receive what she hopes, which creates a whole different type of transitional
