Role In Shaping Craig's Life
In these first chapters, we are introduced to a variety of characters and how they play a role in shaping Craig's life. Craig's childhood with his grandparents seems to be idealistic and loving, considering his biological father is not in the picture. Yet he does not hold any resentment against him but instead seeks his approval. Craig lives with his grandparents until Vern, his future stepfather, enters his life. At first, Vern represents a 'fresh start' for him and his mother, Hazel. He starts off as a good husband and fulfills his promises to Craig on taking him fishing, hiking, etc. This, however, does not last too long before Vern character turns sour, and mean. Though his relationship with Craig was never truly healthy to begin with. Hazel, so far has fallen into the role of a homemaker, keeping the family together. …show more content…
Craig seems like a sweet, young boy who, despite the adversities, does not hold any anger, or resentment for anyone. It shows there is still a lot of love in him to give. I feel like Vern is only getting meaner, and bossy when it comes to Craig, the book has not yet spoken of him doing the same with Hazel. It seems his attitude is only getting worse, never really taking any responsibility when it comes to Craig's actions. Such as the situation with the Lepers. He never acknowledged that he was the one who showed him the movie because he did like the movies that were more age appropriate for

    I have read two-thirds of, It's Kind of a Funny Story. I was supposed to stop at half way, but it is so good that I lost track of time. Craig Gilner is such an intense character with many difficulties trying to manage his stressful life. He has support from numerous people, including his family and his friends.     The characters in this book are the embodiment of what it is to be a high school student.
