Obama knows that even though he had just won the presidential elections, he still has to uphold his own character in front of millions from all nations. Obama starts off with a display of ethos and expresses how there are “indicators of crisis, subject to data and statistics... that the next generation must lower its sights.” (Macon). These series of statements here consist of ethos because Obama is not afraid to reveal that he knows what is going on in the current state of affairs. Instead of sugarcoating the situation, Obama decides to be blunt with the people of America and the observing nations.
