Donald Trump Rhetorical Analysis
Facebook isn’t just a place to see pictures of friends and family’s latest vacation, or to see what your sister-in-law cooked for dinner that night. It’s a place where news, messages, ideas, and funny cat videos can spread at the click of a button. Given that, on average, over 628 million people log on to facebook each day, it is a great website for advertisement. With these statistics, anyone trying to relay some type of message would be “stupid” to not use Facebook as a resource. With this in mind, the Facebook page of GOP front runner Donald Trump takes advantage of the use of Facebook to express his personal values, gain media exposure, and to acquire voter support for his presidential campaign through a use of image and text post strategies

Trump is very active in making posts to his Facebook page, and the most common rhetorical device he uses when doing so is kairos. It seems that Trump keeps up with current events and most of his posts are his personal opinion on topics popular among voters in the U.S. His very aggressive and dictioned posts also gain him media buzz, which causes traffic through his many sources of social contact and introduces his name to those who have never heard of him, in turn benefiting him. Trump also must consider ethos when posting. One example of a post is one where he is posing with border patrol, his consideration of ethos and his appearance led him to wear a more casual outfit. He wears this, possibly, to appear more relatable to the border patrol agents who are “normal people” like most of the voters he is trying to win over. Also in this post there is also a use of kairos, because there has been much controversy about comments regarding Donald Trump and the border. Possibly, he posed to take this picture as a symbol of him standing for his opinions and to gain voter favor of those who see it.
