The Greenwich Association for Retarded Citizens (G.A.R.C.) of Greenwich High

The Greenwich Association for Retarded Citizens (G.A.R.C.) of Greenwich
High is a group of students interested in interacting with disabled students.
These students go to the high school as well, and look forward to getting to know us. Each of the students have different disabilities but they each have the desire to make friends. This group is totally volunteer basis for all of it's members, no one has to attend. I have been a member of this group for the three years I have attended in Greenwich High. Spending a lot of time with these children I have learned to understand that they are just looking to make friends. I joined this group as a freshman because I had worked with children

They each have special characteristics defining them from the others, making each of them special in different ways, just like the rest us. Aside from the meetings that we have every so often to discuss activities we can do, we usually do fun and interesting activities. We go out for pizza frequently because it seems to be the group consensus on what we would all like to eat. During the holidays we celebrate in interesting ways; on
Halloween we have a party where every one gets dressed and brings candy. For the Christmas season we are going to celebrate with a party at a members house and listen to Christmas carols, and have dinner. We have had bake sales and have sold candy in order to raise money for the clubs activities. These are usually a success because every one participates and we all seem to function well as a group. When there are dances or football games at school we each take one of the girls and it's good for them because they get to interact with the rest of the school at a big function. This club is not only fun, but it's like going to a meeting with some of your friends. We are a small group and we all get along. Since we are a

    Undocumented Immigrants

Thousands around the county gathered this past Saturday for immigration reform with a message of Dignity and Respect. As I stood at the immigration rally here in Dallas Reverchon Park to show support. I thought, what is my community doing? When the hell did my parent's "Si Se Puede!" turn into a civil disobedience that would lead to an arrest? With my work clothes, right after a meeting in Dallas, I stood there and judged what seemed to be the faces of my neighbors, my friends, my fellow dreamer peers and my own family. As I continued to take pictures merely for the satisfaction of receiving a few Facebook likes on my videos and pictures, I realized that America has given my community and the millions of other undocumented individuals in this country no other choice. They were taking extreme measures like blocking traffic, screaming and being arrested.…

The article “My Life as an Undocumented Immigrant” was written by Jose Antonio Vargas. In it, Vargas tells of the time when his mother brought him to the Phillippines’ Ninoy Aquino International Airport when he was twelve. His mother told him that she wanted to give him a better life so he boarded onto a plane with a man he had never met before and was told that he was his uncle. He arrived in Mountain View, California and moved in with his grandparents Lolo and Lola. Vargas says that he grew to love his new home and when he entered sixth grade that’s when he found his passion for language. He tells of his struggle of making a distinction between “formal English and American slang” (Vargas 1) and says that he won his 8th grade spelling bee by spelling words that he couldn’t even pronounce properly. The first time Vargas realized he wasn’t a true American was when he was denied his driver’s license because of his fake documentation. After this happened he knew he wanted to prove to himself and everyone else that he was a true American.…

This club might not be popular in my school because when I joined it in my first grade, the members were about fifteen people. But it became much more popular by other students when I was in the second grade because the activities became more interesting. It was not only interesting, but also dangerous such as hiking, rafting, caving, climbing and diving. I did not join all those activities because I had a weak body. The school also did not permit all of it, so we just went hiking because it cost less money and less dangerous. This club did not only give me fun but also a knowledge like how to find edible food in mountain, species of plant and animal that lived in mountain, how to survive in nature etc.…
