Response Essay: Buthaiyah's Development

Matilda tries hard in English and is always willing to improve her work. She enjoys being able to read new words. Matilda has worked hard to build her Reading stamina and can now read independently. She is beginning to write short texts using simple punctuation. Buthaiyah has made some progress in English this semester; however, due to her inconsistent behaviour, she is not performing to the best of her ability. With encouragement, she is beginning to recognise letters and book handling skills. I would like to encourage Buthaiyah to read aloud at home every night and to practice her sight words. She has made some effort in writing and is beginning to form her letters with assistance. Buthaiyah loves sharing her news and stories with the class; however she sometimes needs encouraged to listen to her peers when they are
She can count to 15 and recognise her numbers 1-8, although she still has some trouble writing them. Buthaiyah is beginning to measure objects informally using hands and feet. Although Buthaiyah displays an outward confidence, she finds it difficult to attempt new work without guidance from others. Continued concentration and effort could ensure that Buthaiyah develops to her academic potential.
Buthaiyah has not participated in Science or Hass subjects due to her negotiated attendance to school.
Buthaiyah has made some progress both academically and socially during Term 4. It is pleasing to see her attitude and maturity towards schooling improving. She loves making new friends and usually enjoys interacting with others; however, there has been times when she has not spoken nicely to her peers. Buthaiyah loves listening to her peers sing during our worship times and often joins in. Her willingness to complete work, school attendance and behaviour have impeded her start to school. Therefore she would benefit by continuing to learn her foundation skills before going to Grade
