Observation: Guiguinto, Bulacan has been my home since birth. And I have observed that there is just little improvement in our community. I can tell that there is lack of cooperation among the residents of our subdivision. This lack of cooperation and unity leads to different problems in our community. This problems may lessen the amount of residents that will choose to live in the subdivision.

Conversation: I had a conversation with my grandmother about our subdivision. I asked her what are things she didn’t like in our community. The first thing she said was about the association’s lack of unity. Second, she mentioned the imperfection of the roads. Lastly, she was disappointed that there was no guard in the subdivision. Not all residents care enough for the place. Problems in cleanliness, roads, and security are obvious enough for the association to make an action. I also talked to my sister about this, and she added that the drainage system is not in good condition.

Problems:
1. Poor security
Crime rates may increase and this will impose concrete costs on the victims

2. Road problems
Undeveloped roads mean that there is no improvement in the society’s welfare

3. Cleanliness
This will affect the residents’ health

4. Drainage system
Floods may lead to aggravation of road damage
Extra expenses may occur to residents and even the whole subdivision because of the damages caused by the flood

5. Stray dogs and cats
Pet population increases
Dogs and cats stray everywhere that adds up to the problem in cleanliness, their dirt are not properly cleaned
It may cause unintentional accidents like getting bitten and may cause illnesses to the victim and this will lead to more expenses
Pets do not get the love and care they deserve

It’s mainly been difficult because the chemical and naval corporations in the vicinity are unwilling to negotiate with the community to redevelop, forcing this community to be physically pinned down. Also, unfortunately local government hasn’t been helpful either. Therefore, my prospective on how the community is addressing these issues has changed, and how I see gentrification issues of the community. Lastly, due to these external factors, families rather work on and combat other tangible social justice issues, such as immigration, food insecurity and healthcare mainly because they can directly see the results of their…

There are many changes that I have observed in my neighborhood since living here for 21 years. There has been a recent migration of homeowners moving out of the neighborhoods. The home owners are either renting out their homes, to a new influx of section 8 tenants or they have chosen to walk away from their homes leaving many in the area to go into foreclosure. Foreclosure and crime are two of the biggest element of change that I have noticed in my neighborhood, and many of these problems arise from the economy, health and illness, and familial structure breakdown.…

All my life I have lived near the city of Watertown population thirty thousand. The economy has been affected for the worse along with many job losses locally over the last twenty years. My impression of the area has always been that is consisted of mostly middle- income to upper- income standard of living with minimal low income. After completing the windshield survey “the equivalent of a community head to toe assessment.” (Stanhope, & Lancaster, 2012, p. 420) then re-driving the same route again was a real eye opener. The whole city is so complex the idea of boundaries that aren’t fences was foreign to me at first but is now so obvious. Looking closely at the homes and the condition the houses, yards, sidewalks were in gives an idea of the prosperity of the people living there. It can be easy to drive through residential areas occasionally and not really see the condition the community is in. It takes a trained eye to readily identify concerns.…

I was asked to write about a neighborhood I haven’t seen and I think that this is a perfect one because I used to be familiar with it back then. I think that since I haven’t visited for a while it is perfect for this assignment. When I went to 111st I thought everything was going to be pretty much the same but quite a few things changed. Before, it would be dangerous to go out to the park or anywhere because there were a lot of gangs. When I went to visit this week it was so nice. They made new apartments all over the place. The park where I used to go also changed a lot. It seems friendlier and the people that live in that neighborhood seem kind. I remember when I was a child my mom wouldn’t let go to the store alone even though it was right across my street because she knew about the gangs around. Another thing that changed about the neighborhood was that before, a lot of Dominicans and African Americans used to live there. Now, a lot of Asian people live there, especially in the new built apartments. I also saw that a lot of Mexicans and Ecuadorians live there. The house where I live is still there.…

On April 19, 1995, at 9:02 a.m., the United States of America was reminded that the worst horror often comes from within. Within a matter of days Americans were forced to realize that this terrible tragedy may have been caused by citizens who call themselves patriots. Until the Oklahoma City bombing, Americans generally though of terrorism as a foreign problem that could not invade the walls of this nation. Many Americans had given little thought to what these patriots sought to do. Militia and patriot groups were considered to be fairly harmless groups who enjoyed stirring people up. The vast majority of Americans did not realize how serious or how dangerous these groups actually were. Very few people could understand why a fellow countryman would wreak such havoc on them. When it was learned that the accused suspects in the Oklahoma City bombing allegedly had ties to political extremist groups, citizens started to give these groups a second, closer look. Very slowly, and over several decades, these fundamental extremist groups and backyard political patriots have evolved into the most dangerous enemy this country has ever faced.…

For years neighborhoods in America have been providing individuals with a sense of security and intimacy. Diversity in many neighborhoods gave America a more international feeling to it and is what makes the country unique today. However, social and physical declines of neighborhoods have been evident in today’s society. Not only have the once attractive living environments been deteriorating, but the people in them have been changing immensely. The loss of individuality in America has many people questioning what the true identity of our country really is. These separations in society all start with the negative change taking place in neighborhoods. The sudden decline of neighborhoods could be caused by the ineluctable course of assimilation, the dramatic differences between low income and high income families, and the deterioration of neighborhoods.…

Housing and Zoning- The homes in this neighborhood were built between 1920’s and 1940’s. They are mostly pier and beam homes with wood or asbestos siding. Some are stucco and very few brick homes. Most of them are detached single family homes, there are a few scattered duplexes and even a few mobile homes. General condition of these homes would be poor to average. A lot of the yards are overgrown or even just dirt. Several of the homes have cars parked in the yards. Broken and boarded up windows were common throughout the neighborhood. Several houses had paint that was chipping off. There were also several homes that…

What is flooding? Flooding is when a place or area is covered or submerged with water. There are many things that cause flooding. That includes heavy rainfall, which can cause rivers to overflow and devastate a whole community. Another culprit to flooding is hard dry soil. When the soil has not been replenished in a long period of time, it cannot absorb the downpour rapidly enough. Building on flood plains is also a growing concern. Floodplains are flat areas of land with higher elevation on both sides. After it rains it is a place where unwelcomed floodwaters are kept. If there is construction in floodplains it will only be destroyed by incoming water. Lastly steep slopes also contribute to flooding. When it rains, the water runs down the slope to a river. But if it is raining very hard it could lead to mudslides, and flooding of the river. Which brings me into possible solutions to these complications.…
