Reoccurring Themes Of Madness In Hamlet And Ophelia
Madness is an idiotic behaviour performed by an individual. According to Larry Culliford, there are tour types of madness bad-mad, mad-mad, sad-mad and glad mad. In Shakespeare, Hamlet madness was a reoccurring theme throughout the play in divergent ways. The theme madness can be analyzed in Hamlet's and Ophelia's life. The main character Hamlet wants to seek revenge on King Claudius for murdering his father, King Hamlet. On the other hand, Ophelia's madness is developed from her isolation. By comparing and contrasting Hamlet and Ophelia, it is evident that what causes their madness in the play determines the ultimate outcome.
