Remarkable: Reading and Program
It is truly remarkable to see what great accomplishments a small unit can do to help children with reading. A lone resource teacher brilliantly set up a program with the help of some parent volunteers, which helps children read. This said program enables the students to help each other with comprehension. The primary students with reading difficulties are being supported by kids slightly older than them. These older kids helps the younger ones to read. And as the program stays on, a lot of improvement where seen with the children’s literacy. The good readers have also shared their own techniques and styles in reading.

The schools engaging on the scheme must work alongside with the parents, in showing support to whatever the program entails. The parents may be involved in it, but of course they also respect the school’s way of doing things. The teachers still have the obligation to teach the students, the program is just added support. Having said that, the ‘Peer Tutoring Literacy Program’ will not work without the school and teachers’ approval.

This program sort of re-introduces the students to like to read. Having an older friend in school to read with will be exciting to those young minds. As they will feel at ease to read out loud. It is also good to have a wide variety of enticing books to choose from. Fun books will not only encourage the reader, but the tutor as well, as they are kids themselves.

The said ‘peer tutors’ play a vital role in this program. As kids, they provide joyfulness and passion in helping the younger ones to read more. They can also share their experiences in learning how to read when they were at their age. This will help the younger students feel comfortable as they will see that they are just like them. The tutors may not have all the vocabulary with them, but they also seek the help of the teachers or parent volunteers. Seeing the tutors ask for help, makes the student feels that it is perfectly alright to

The goal of this paper is to present a plan for a book drive for Lincoln Middle School, a low income middle school in Gainesville, Fl. A problem that many schools may have is trying to find the money to provide books that the kids will be excited about instead of boring textbooks or old books that are falling apart. Not having the luxury of reading or being read to as a child can cause these problems. Our solution is to provide books to these students to stop these problems.
