As a child, I always admired and respected men and women who served the United States in the Navy and armed forces. These positions required a lot of sacrifice which meant that only the strongest willed of them made it through. That will power seemed to distinguish them from other members of society, they were mentally and physically stronger. When it came time for me to look into applying for colleges, I looked for places that had good engineering programs, top tier educations, and a structured student campus life. Many universities had the former two requirements, however, very few had the latter requirement. While discussing college options with my computer engineering teacher, he recommended I look into the United States Naval Academy…

What I lived in the past two years taught me that I have to be open minded and make every situation as a learning experience. Sometimes things do not go the way we wanted them to, but that does not mean that that is wrong. I got mad when I was pulled down one year, but I realize that having another year gave me the opportunity to prepare myself better for college. I was able to take courses of my interest and that probably I would not have taken if things had happened in a different way. I now know that I can face any problem with determination and hard work because giving up it is not an option for…

As nervous as I was when I walked into Saint Joseph Catholic School (K-8) for my first day of kindergarten, I never thought I would be able to leave after 6th grade and enter the world of middle school. In a small school of about 400 kids, I was familiar with every face that passed by me in the hallway. I got to know the kids in my grade so well and we all knew each other’s life stories. By the time I was in 6th grade at Saint Joseph, some of my friends were planning on going to Kinard middle school in 7th grade. At this point in my life, I was not completely content with where I was going to school. The realization came to me that it was time to move on. It was time for me to try something new.…

Extremely worried, her parents inquired regarding their daughter's future, alleviating their worries, the doctor's advice to them was to be diligent and "treat her as you would a normal child." Knowing I have been different did not stop me from participating fully in life, especially during my childhood. In December 2012, we received the wonderful news that the final hole had closed. The odds were in my favor since I have been lucky to have never needed surgery, nor required hospital care from a critical injury. Then I remember a time in my first 2 years of high school. I was oblivious. Confuse about my future. Whether I wanted to do something after high school. I have to admit school wasn't my priority in freshman year. I wouldn't get the best grade, but they weren't the worst either. All I cared about is having friends. Then something hit me. Seeing all these seniors not graduate on time. Seeing many kids struggle financially after high school. I eventually notice that those who go to college succeed more. Especially being a minority it's extremely difficult to succeed…
